  1. I know I’m pretty late to commenting on this post, but I felt SHOCK when I saw the news of Teena Marie dying. Although I hadn’t gotten around to listening to much of her music before her death, I had grown up hearing about this soul legend and her remarkable voice. I can only imagine the pain and devastation her daughter felt when she found her mother had passed. I hope her daughters are getting all of the love and support they need.
Teena Marie was a great talent! I kept listening to her hit “Square Biz” over and over again after I had heard the news.

  7. I cannot believe Lady Tee is gone. I am just sick over this…her poor daughter having found her like that. A day after her birthday and I know they were so close :-(

  8. What a sad loss to music lovers everywhere, and to the industry. Alia, I trust you will keep the family business going strong, for as many who loved your mother, loves you as much. You could tell your mother loved you with her whole heart. I pray for peace and coemfort for you Alia, for you & your mother’s family and friends. It’s sad your mother left before we felt her time should have been up, but she has been taken to a higher calling & is singing with the angels now. May she rest in peace.

  9. RIP Teena, a true music legend. My thoughts and prayers to her daughter.

On another note, every time I come here since your design change, my browser crashes. You might wanna look into why that is.

  10. I saw on another website that she was known as the Ivory Queen of Soul and I like that.

May she rest in peace and may God wrap his arms around her family during this time.

  11. Teena Marie was pure SOUL she made you feel every word she sung. Songs like “Out On a Limb” and “Young Love” just to name a few touched my heart and made me think I could throw down as I sung along with them (I couldn’t…lol). My heart goes out to her daughter and her loved ones. Gone too soon but you left some wonderful music for us to cherish Rest In Peace Lady T!!!

  12. Rest In Peace Teena Marie!!! Your entire family especially your daughter is in our thoughts and prayers. I so agree with so many of you about how artists these days can’t compare to her many other greats. I remember growing up and listening to her music. I could recognize her voice from anywhere. There aren’t too many songs nowadays that will make you drop what you are doing and listen to it. I’m 29 and I find that most often I would rather listen to Tom Joyner morning show or Steve Harvey than listen to some current r&b stations. All the songs now seem to just want to get men and women in bed there is no more romance or mention of love. Songs like “fire and desire” really don’t exist anymore. But I’ll be bumping my Teena Marie today.

  13. may your daughter find comfort in her heart this morning, and may you rest in peace I am in a state of shock, and I can remember all the messages,,in your music,,the song, about the bird,,the duet with you an your daughter has a message in it,,and this is you,,may you fly away to the heavens and rest in peace!your music will live on and you will be greatly missed forever!

  14. My thoughts, condolences, love, and prayers goes out to the family of the late, great R&B legend, Ms. Teena Marie. Gone 2 soon. Ms. Lady Tee, thank you for your contributions, and your heart, soul, and feelings that you poured into each of your songs. I can never forget your intro to rap on “Square Biz”, your performance on the forever R&B Classic, Fire & Desire with Rick James, and A Rose is A Rose (By any other name) with Gerald Levert. God, Rick, Gerald, and other R&B Legends are standing at the gates of St. Peter waiting to receive you with open arms. I will be awaiting the heavenly choir concert when I get there. Thank you, and you are forever loved and missed, Lady Tee.

  15. Rest in Peace, Teena Marie…my deepest sympathies and condolences to her daughter Alia Rose…this is tragedy…

  16. OMG im in so much shock.i love me some teena marie. everytime i would hear lover girl i just go in to my teena marie act. i just transfered her music on my ipod months ago. although i was a youngling when she was out i still love her music. and rather listen to her all day which i have lol, instead of listening to the new acts out here with no talent. she had a gift and its sad her career had so much grief along the way. but she always made great music. music that will live forever!!! my condolences goes out to her daughter, and i hope she knows her mothers legacy lives forever!!!

    R.I.P MISS TEENA MARIE

  17. When I heard about Teena’s death, I thought it was just another celebrity death rumor only to find out it was true. I wanted to cry because not only was Teena one of the best singers around, but her songs, Portugese Love and Fire and Desire, brought back so many wonderful memories. I grew up listening to her.

Teena is one of the Last of the Mohicans of singers from the past. Square Biz, Lovergirl, and of course, “Fire and Desire” with Rick James are still remembered decades later and by people who probably weren’t even born when these recordings were released.

My heart goes out to her baby girl whom I know she loved so much. That love came through the screen during that “Unsung” episode.

RIP, Teena, and may God help her daughter get through this (one day after her 19th birthday). Sheesh, life isn’t fair, is it?

  18. Its so sad that so many of our “Greats” are leaving us. I am upset and hurting bc the most of the artists we have out aren’t good or even talented. But yet they seem to think they are.. I miss the old days of music and tv. It will never be the same now.

    R.I.P Teena Marie (Lady T)

  19. I loved her music and her voice. So talented. She was before my time, but as I stated in past posts about Teena Marie on BCK, I learned about her, her music career and her life through TV One “Unsung”. I’m am still in shock and hurting. I feel awful for Alia bc she is the only child and lost her mother.

R.I.P Teena Marie. I will keep Alia Rose in my prayers.
