UPDATE: LAURYN HILL ANNOUNCES PREGNANCY AT DETROIT SHOW + ROHAN DENIES PATERNITY

Updated on 6/7/11: Rohan Marley, the father of Lauryn Hill’s five children, has hinted that he is not the father of  her sixth child. Rohan wrote via Twitter recently, “’2 things… I’m not married and I don’t have anyone expecting anything.”

Up until now, everyone had assumed that Marley was the father of Lauryn’s sixth child. Story developing….

Original Post:
Singer Lauryn Hill has confirmed that she is indeed pregnant with her sixth child.  The singer announced her pregnancy at the end of her concert at Detroit’s Chene Park on Saturday night.

She told the crowd: “I’m going to be taking time off to give birth.”

In April, Lauryn hinted at her pregnancy when she said, “I keep having these children. I don’t know if I’m the most fertile woman in America.  I’ve got five big children, you believe that? If you ask anybody I went to high school with, they’d be like puzzled… Wait till you hear the big secret though.”

Hill is already the proud mother of  kids Zion(b.1997); Selah(b. 1998); Joshua(b. 2002); John (b. 2003); and Sarah(b.2008).

Check out more photos of the expectant mom below!

Juice, thank you for bringing up the issue of overconsumption! That’s probably one of the smartest comments I’ve read in a while. There’s almost 6.7 billion people in the world that we can barely feed and by 2025 there will be 1 billion more. I will not want to feed my kids with KFC or McDonald just because the price of real food is increasing every year. Let’s not even talk about drinking water which will become the source of the next world war. Anyway, good luck to Lauren still…

  • Jaleesa June 9, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Much love to Lauryn and her growing family. I hate to hear other women say that a women’s career is over because she has children. And lets admit it, celebrities live by a different set of rules. She’s not a single mother making 35,000 a year. She’s Lauryn Hill and her children’s grandfather is Bob Marley!

  • shesallthat June 9, 2011 at 5:59 am

what is the “big secret” to all these kids she is hinting about??? fyi – we already know lauren!!! obviously you are not doing anything to prevent them.

  • shesallthat June 9, 2011 at 5:57 am

well i am not JK – what in the hell is that supposed to mean??? how stupid you sound!

    • KekeB June 9, 2011 at 4:35 pm

      oh my.. be nice folks

    • PlainMean June 9, 2011 at 5:42 pm

      Lol oh my!

    • Pisces June 9, 2011 at 6:57 pm

      LOL.

  • PlainMean June 8, 2011 at 2:23 pm

Hey, Hey, Hey! What the hell is that supposed to mean? Lol jk.

  • Zoetje June 8, 2011 at 12:49 pm

What do you all worry about!!! It ain’t your life so let her live as long as you don’t hear the children complain, do not assume they aren’t happy….pppfff jeeeeeez!!! That’s what’s wrong with this world everyone is just in everyone else’s business!!! People think they have the right to say what ever is best for everyone else instead of leading their own life the best way they can….and stop judging!!!!

    • ShaFeelinmii June 9, 2011 at 1:56 pm

Calm down Grasshopper everyone is entitled to a comment isn’t that the reason why we have online sites That have comment boxes

      • Fashionedbygod33 June 9, 2011 at 10:28 pm

@ShaFeelinmii, I mean really. Some of these situations and then subsequent comments in opposition hit home for a lot of people and they get very defensive and indignant.

      • Zoetje June 13, 2011 at 6:13 am

Aight so if we all have the right to react on these sites I can too! ;) And I was just saying it’s her life and people should stop judging. Commenting on a website and judging someone should be two different things. Grasshopper. ;)

I bet you its Lil Wayne

    • PlainMean June 8, 2011 at 2:20 pm

BWAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Lil Wayne! Lmbo! Funniest thing I’ve heard all day!

  • Me June 8, 2011 at 7:58 am

Yea, I heard Wyclef is the Daddy. That is why she said “wait until you hear the secret”.

    • Sherley June 8, 2011 at 11:44 am

      Wyclef the father huh?

If it is true, yet another married man. And Wyclef I know personally, please do not get me started on him.

    • Trisha June 8, 2011 at 6:27 pm

I heard that too. But this wouldn’t be the first time if so. On another blog they posted an excerpt from an interview from 08 & it said that Lauryn was messing w/ Rohan & Wyclef at the same time. & when she was prego w/ Zion she didn’t know who the father was YIKES! lol. BCK didn’t post Rohan’s other tweet but he said “That’s correct, until I say out of my mouth to the contrary. Trust me the info out there has been so incorrect for so many years. ” So this makes me believe that something like Zion’s birth is happening again. Rohan seems like he’s not sure if the baby is his & is not claiming anything until he hears “YOU ARE THE FATHER!” hahaha
& Rohan said he’s divorced from his “wife” & him and Lauryn aren’t together. So who knows. Everything is just so messy lol.

  • feel free June 8, 2011 at 6:27 am

this is the type of topic that celebrities should not be sharing online because this stuff can really hurt the child in the furture seriously, celebrity parents dont think sometimes they’re always the ones complaining about how the media is always in there buisness and things like that yet again their throwing out their buisness its not cool, especially for that unborn child

  • Fashionedbygod33 June 7, 2011 at 11:01 pm

    *Standing Ovation*

    Sherley wrote,

As I previously said, I wasn’t attacking you..nor them for that matter.

As far as showing sensitivity towards their believes? Hummmm….let’s see..why? There is no logical, well meaningful explination for being married to one woman & having multiple children with multiple women. There just isn’t any.

It may work for the adults, but does it work for the children? Do they get to have a say in it or are they just suppose to be birthed & placed in a quiet corner like trophies?

I too am from the Caribbean & I know all too well about some of the wacked out cultural beliefs. My grandmother, mother, brothers & cousins are my everyday proof. I live my life by logic, love, self-worth & plain common sense.

      Thanks Fashioned.

Same here, Fashioned…I just love Sherley’s common sense comments.

  • Dallas Limo June 7, 2011 at 10:29 am

When is enough is enough. Yeah Lauryn maybe you are very fertile but you say you keep having these kids so why doesn’t your partner use protection? 5 kids is more than plenty. At this rate you’ll end up with 10 kids. My question is how do you give each kid enough attention? To me you don’t & that’s not fair to the kids. Please stop having kids. You have enough already.

  • Telee_02 June 7, 2011 at 8:24 am

As a community we have got to do better! Why is this her 6th bastard baby, and no mention of marriage?! Just because it is not aganist the law to be have babies without being married, does not mean that it is “Right.” I am a Lauryn Fan–love her music, but truth be told she does need to take some time off…because her Detroit performance was lacking.

    • Zoetje June 8, 2011 at 12:43 pm

I have 3 children with the same man, and believe me I do not plan to get married…waste of time and money. For me Love is all that matters and not a certificate. So before you state something remember that there are plenty people out there living together with their partner without being married and raising their children just fine! Do not generalise it, your opinion is yours, but that doesn’t mean that it applies to everyone. Have a nice day.

    • Zoetje June 8, 2011 at 12:46 pm

We wouldn’t be in her business if SHE did not annouce it to the world and then multiple tweets went out publicly! And as for yourself, just bc some aspire to be babymamas such as yourself, others do NOT and believe strongly in marriage. So stop your ranting on abt why we in her business when LAURYN was the one to put her ALL her business on blast herslf!

        • Fashionedbygod33 June 8, 2011 at 8:17 pm

          Word!

        • Zoetje June 13, 2011 at 6:11 am

Hahahahahahhah babymamas!!! Well sorry but where I come from, I’m a mother and no babymommma! I guess we differ in culture. I don’t need to be married to a man to reach the high level of livity and life standard I can achieve, in order to educate and raise my children the best way possible to live as positive, kind and not judgefull people, we can do exact the same thing without being married. Which is what this world needs more of, less judgemental people. As for it being your believe that a woman should be married to a man, please explain to me why there are sooooo many cases of divorcesss!!! Sorry I do not believe in a piece of paper to insure my lifetime commitment with someone else. So many man get married only to cheat on their wives please. Marriage is a charade! Love is what counts and that is my opinion.

  • jireha2 June 7, 2011 at 6:20 am

My problem is not the quantity of kids but having kids with married man is what i don’t understand. By the way is he paying the child support or she is looking after them herself. She is good rapper though.

  • Fashionedbygod33 June 6, 2011 at 11:18 pm

    Wow, okay. She looks different.

  • BigBlue June 6, 2011 at 9:45 pm

Who is Lauryn Hill trying to be? The black Michelle Duggar? I remember when Lauryn Hill got attention from singing great music and not by having a lot of babies.

  • Trisha June 6, 2011 at 7:15 pm

If she’s following Rastafarian beliefs that her baby daddy goes by, birth control or anything of that nature is not allowed. Even medicine is out of the question for the Rastas.
I really don’t think 6 is a lot of kids. I wouldn’t have 6 kids (i don’t think my body can handle it lol) but some people like big families. My grandparents had 7, so i loved growing up w/ having all my cousins & all the birthday parties we would have.
& Rastafarian’s don’t believe in divorce (why Rohan is still married to his 1st wife). But i think Lauryn just love the fact she has the Marley attachment she puts up w/ Rohan & continue to have the kids. I love me some Bob & his boys are gorgeous, but i couldn’t do it lol.

      Not attacking you but:

They don’t believe in divorce but believe in cheating & having multiple women?

They don’t believe in birth control but believe in having children they cannot raise? Please people, spare me the ‘yes they can raise their children’ speel. It is not possible to raise multiple children by multiple women in the manner it should be.

They don’t believe in medicine but they believe in sticking their wiggly in any & all holes.

      People are plain backwards.

      • Trisha June 6, 2011 at 10:46 pm

I’m not Rastafarian, but i am Jamaican so i know a LITTLE about the belief. & I’m not saying i agree w/ the whole non-divorcing, no birth control/medicine thing, but i do think you should show some sensitivity towards other people’s belief especially when your not educated on it. It goes deeper than having multiple women & kids.
***& there are many homes where its just a mom, dad, & the kids & the parents aren’t even present & don’t raise the kids well. & there are homes that have kids that have different fathers or mothers & they have parents that know how to act civil & are present in the kids life & raise them well :)

@Anony Christens aren’t suppose to have sex before marriage but some do. So the Rasta’s don’t believe in medicine but some do seek medical care. Rohan’s father is the man that wouldn’t seek medical treatment for cancer b/c it went against his belief & he died from the untreated cancer. You call Rasta hypocrites, some can say Christens or other religions are hypocrites. Christens aren’t suppose to judge, but a lot of them are BCK commenters judging people. Like i said before, i don’t practice or agree w/ some of the “laws” of Rastafarian, but I’m not going to bad mouth someone’s else belief I’m not educated on. But everybody is entitled to their opinion :)

        • NikNak June 16, 2011 at 3:38 pm

@Trisha, WTF are you talking about? Bob Marley died in Miami FL while he was undergoing ratiation and chemo from UM Hospital.

    • NoDoubt June 9, 2011 at 2:39 pm

Rohan just tweeted information about his divorcing his wife in 1996, which is the same year that he and Lauryn got together. So,if that’s true; she hasn’t been dating a married man all this time.

  • Pisces June 6, 2011 at 5:37 pm

Just making a comparison… Diana Ross had 5 kids for 3 different men. Married or not, all those kids came out of one woman’s womb, too.

  • juice June 6, 2011 at 5:27 pm

To those who are unhappy about my status- sorry but I choose to stand by it. First of all, I’m 21 and I really think its selfish for anyone to have such a large number of children. I live in Africa- South Africa by the way; secondly, I see what devastation developed countries overconsumption is having on the African continent. Read up on the Nile river and the Nile perch e.c.t and you will see what I’m talking about. Development countries overconsumption is one of many factors that make African people vulnerable and leads to the depletion of our resources. Yes I know that she can take care of her kids and its her money…but her action and countless others like her have an adverse affect on other people.

    • tanja June 7, 2011 at 1:18 am

oh please….oversumption….the states ain´t china….u know what the biggest problem in africa is? the leaders of the countries taking away almost everything for themselves and not putting it in the country….as long as this doesnt change…..nothing will change. My man is from Cameroon and this president changes the constitution at will and has been in power for 30 years now….without people wanting him to be in power…..that happens all over the continent…….as horrible as the situation is in Libya and as it was in Egypt and Tunesia…I believe this seems to be the only way to get free of these dictators…..acting like reigning a democracy……that is the big problem

  • BrwnSantiLove June 6, 2011 at 3:42 pm

Congrats to her! As long as she can take care of them, then fine.

  • EVELINA RAE June 6, 2011 at 3:37 pm

WOW! 6 is an at risk family. Congratulations, children are a blessing.

  • PlainMean June 6, 2011 at 1:47 pm

Lol. Tom Joyner and crew said she looked pregnant months ago! Can’t wait to hear them cut up when they find out they were right. RIP to Lauryn’s career. Old Lauryn is gone but won’t be forgotten!

  • theyknow June 6, 2011 at 12:18 pm

More power to you Lauryn!! Have kids as long as you can and have as many as you want. As long as I don’t have to take care of them… I’m good..LOL!!

    • RidingFinest June 8, 2011 at 9:25 am

I have to agree with you!!!!

  • Seriously June 6, 2011 at 11:52 am

Whatever..6 kids is A LOT! I wish her well with all these kids but geez. And when do he plan on marrying you Lauryn? He is doing nothing but using your body like a doormat. Some example to set for your daughters. This is what you used to sing abt in your music; how stupid girls allow these men to treat their bodies with no respect & now you are that stupid girl you used to sing abt about! I REALLY missed the Lauryn Hill that we were first introduced to in the late 90s/early 2000s.

    • Sunshine June 6, 2011 at 2:31 pm

WORD!!!!! I remember Doo Wop (That Thing) Girls ya betta watch out some guys are only about…..

      • Sherley June 6, 2011 at 8:28 pm

        Exactly. SMH.

    • What?! June 8, 2011 at 9:02 am

Boys look to their mothers for guidance too, so it could/would affect her sons’ future decisions just as much as it does her daughters’.
“Guys you know you better watch out, some girls, some girls are only about, that thing that thing…”

  • KLS June 6, 2011 at 11:03 am

While her choices wouldn’t necessarily be mine, I wish her well.
Hope she has an easy pregnancy/labor and a beautiful healthy baby. Congrats Lauryn!

  • Sunshine June 6, 2011 at 11:01 am

I don’t get it. 6 kids with a man that is married to someone else and lists his status as single. To each his own because that wouldn’t be me. God bless!

  • missnamatovu June 6, 2011 at 9:29 am

I’m a big Lauryn fan, but I give up on her coming back with a new album, she seems to be lazy about the whole thing, so I’m like stay home and mother your 6 kids. FYI I would love to have many children, but after the pain of my first I doubt that will come to fruition Lol. I say have them if you can afford to raise and educate them. Good luck L. Boogie

    • Teri June 6, 2011 at 10:21 am

Shoot, there’s that lil invention called epidural. LOL. :-) Some women don’t want the meds, but it sure beats having all that pain.

      • missnamatovu June 6, 2011 at 4:19 pm

@Teri I had the epidural twice and it didn’t work! I can laugh about it now LOL

        • Teri June 6, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Oh noooo! I’m so sorry to hear that, girl. It’s bad enough being stuck in the back with a needle, and then for it to not work??? I feel for ya because I know that pain is like none other.

          • missnamatovu June 7, 2011 at 3:12 pm

@Terri & Shirley, thanks. I keep saying God didn’t want me to have a cute baby for free, so I paid the price. No expanding for now!

        • Sherley June 6, 2011 at 9:47 pm

You poor woman! I’m so very sorry. Labor pain is not for the weak. I’m sure all the joy you are getting from your current child will outweight the pain & you’ll be wanting to expand your family sooner or later. (Says the lady with one child..hehehe)

  • 1coolazzchic June 6, 2011 at 8:59 am

why does she need to stop having kids?

  • Afroartmami June 6, 2011 at 7:46 am

I love me some Lauryn Hill! I know it’s weird but I get a kick outta knowing I’m pregnant the same time my favorite artist is pregnant too! YAY BABIES!!!! Only thing is this is my first and she’s a bit more experienced than me…lol

  • juice June 6, 2011 at 7:12 am

i know that children are a blessing but she really needs to stop making them…what does one needs 6 kids for in this day and age? hasn’t she ever heard of the Malthasian theory (or however its spelt)…i dont care about whether she can afford to feed them or not- overconsumption is a problem in the world and there should be an enforced law that prevents people from having more than 3 children.
ok, now that i’ve said that- i hope that she will have a safe pregnancy and deliver a beautiful baby.

    • RidingFinest June 6, 2011 at 8:52 am

You sound like a dang fool….if she could afford them, take care of them and provide a well balanced life for her children…who the heck are you or anyone else to dictate how many children this woman should have. You should be telling this to the young people male & females out her having babies living off my damn tax dollars and maybe yours’ who are bringing children into this world not at a grown woman who can handle her business….

      • beetee June 7, 2011 at 1:07 am

        Ditto!!

I agree 100 percent! plus im the middle child of 5! I love my siblings and dont know what i would do without them!

    • 1coolazzchic June 6, 2011 at 8:58 am

wow seriously? she can afford to take care of em so who are u to say stop having them. one doesnt “need” children, but wants them. if she wants to have 16 kids, thats her bizness. thats one of the problems wit people, always in others bizness. if u dont wanna have kids, or more than 3 thats UR biz. thats all u need to worry about

      • whateva June 6, 2011 at 9:50 am

        so true!

      • whateva June 6, 2011 at 9:53 am

All of those saying that she needs to stop having children…you guys need to stop. She can have as many as she daggone wants…you guys dont have to support them…SMDH!!!

    • babylove23703 June 6, 2011 at 10:02 am

How do you bring up a theory that you can’t even spell?

      • What?! June 8, 2011 at 9:07 am

        Hahaha right?

    • Celeste June 6, 2011 at 2:47 pm

You’re right about overconsumption. This is what couples in some industrialized countries are limited to how many children they can have (no matter how much money the parents make). Read up on it!

    • Celeste June 6, 2011 at 2:49 pm

MalthUsian catastrophe: a forced return to subsistence-level conditions once population and economic growth had outpaced agricultural production.

    • MissT June 8, 2011 at 10:10 am

I totally agree that there are too many people on this planet. I know that Lauren can afford them but does that make it ok? Women we must get our stuff together and challenge the men in our lives to be men and take their rightful position in our lives. Lauren was a brilliant strong woman. She has dug herself into a hole and doesn’t appear to know how to recover. It’s as if she is under mind control. She has beautiful children but that is besides the point. Lauren your guy is toxic for you it shows in your behavior. I love you Lauren and I pray for her peace.

      • Pisces June 9, 2011 at 12:18 pm

I don’t think it’s mind control…maybe control or lack thereof of another part of her anatomy, a little more south on the body.

    • Deana June 9, 2011 at 11:36 am

Who are you to say people should only be allowed to have 3 kids?
If a woman wants to have 20 kids she should be able to as long as she can take care of herself as well as the 20 she has. Have as many kids as you want hell its your body, no one says this to the white women like that dumbass octomom or that duggar woman with her 19 child havin as. I myself have 7 children and they are all taken care of and dont every need or want for anything. So if you are going to make that statement you need to direct it at the right people!!!

  • LaTanya June 6, 2011 at 6:42 am

Yeah after being an hour and a half late…..smh! She was ok but Mos Def was the best part of the show for me.
