YARA SHAHIDI: VARIETY’S POWER OF YOUTH 2011

Yara Shahidi,11, arrived at Variety’s 5th annual Power Of Youth event presented by The Hub at Paramount Studios on October 22, 2011 in Hollywood, California.

Yara was recognized at the event for her work with several charitable organizations, including NextAid.org:

NextAid  is a highly respected non-profit organization in Los Angeles and creates projects that serve needy children, youth, and women in Africa. As the great grandson of a Ghana West African King, Kwesi was thrilled to find out that the money raised thus far from the sale of the t-shirts has been used to support the construction of an ecological business facility located in Nairobi slum ,the Kawangware Vision Centre. The centre is locally created and managed by former street children to provide positive opportunities to get kids off the streets. To make a donation, go to NextAid.org.

The pint-size star recently starred in film Butter.

BCK START POSTING STUFF ON AMANDLA, which means power in Zulu, STENBERG, young Cataleya from the movie Columbiana. SHE’S DEFINITELY A RISING STAR. BEAUTIFUL AFRICAN AMERICAN (mother) AND DANISH (father) CHILD!

Yara is a cutie. That dress looks like a big t-shirt with a string tied around it though. Her hair is always cute.

  • Truth Seeker October 25, 2011 at 10:12 am

I just think she’s the cutest thing. And I’m glad her parents keep her hair natural.

  • Sherley October 25, 2011 at 10:12 am

Such a pretty young lady. I’m loving how she’s make-up free & weave free. :)

    • connie1 October 26, 2011 at 6:02 am

LOL, SHERLEY, ALL KIDS ARE WEAVE FREE. RIGHT? I HAVE NEVER SEEN A KID WITH WEAVE IN THEIR HAIR. I LIKE HOW SHE IS PERM FREE. SHE IS NATURAL.

      • Sasha1 October 26, 2011 at 10:59 am

Unfortunately people are now putting weave, extensions, and hairpieces in our babies hair. I love what this little girl and her Mom stand for. Natural beauty. So funny that I use her (a child) for ideas as to how to style my hair. We can learn so much from our babies. Most of us have been using chemicals so long that we really don’t know what our natural hair texture is. Most would be surprised when the toxic chemicals are removed and that beautiful hair emerges. I’m inspired by her natural beauty and praise her mother for instilling a sense of pride in her. I only wish that my Mom would have recognized that curly, frizzy, thick hair was a gift rather than an inconvenient curse. Btw, I don’t think she cut it rather it was probably wet and air dried. This causes some serious shrinkgage(inches). A remedy for this is to twist it and put flex rods on the very ends to weigh it down as it dries.
