MEEKA CLAXTON IS INSPIRED BY DAUGHTER TO START ‘PRIVILEGED GIRLS’ COLLECTION

Basketball Wives 3 star Meeka Claxton will launch a new collection called Privileged Girls in Fall 2012. The line is geared towards girls ages 2-10 and aims to offer age-appropriate fashion wear.

Although the collection will not debut until Fall, several pieces of jewelry have already sold on the Privileged Girls website. Meeka contributes much of her success to her 8-year-old daughter Aniya Simone. The line was tailored after Aniya’s “Rock Star Chic” fashion and offers a variety of different styles to choose from.

Claxton states, “My daughters are just like every other little girl their ages. They love the way their favorite stars such as Willow Smith & Bella Thorne dress. However, the fashions currently available aren’t age appropriate and at times are a bit too revealing and that doesn’t sit well with me or my hubby.” Privileged Girls is Meeka’s first attempt at creating a collection for girls.

    Pretty little girl.

  • BossLady January 18, 2012 at 12:30 am

lol at the price of that bracelet. I made those for fun as a kid and you can easily find a similar bracelet for $5 or less (no joke). However, on a more positive note, I like the fact that she’s promoting age appropriate clothing for young girls. She’s also a very pretty girl!

    Beautiful Girl!!

Maybe the Privileged Girls Collection will donate some of its proceeds to a few Underprivileged Girls.

Is that Meeka’s way of flaunting her wealth?

The name is plain wacky and it sounds snobby.

However I under the need to have more age appropriate clothing for young girls.

Her daughter has her eyes she is stunning!

  • Angel*eyes January 17, 2012 at 3:24 pm

Why does it have to be called “privileged girls” ? Cute kid tho

  • THEYKNOW January 17, 2012 at 3:19 pm

    She is too cute!!

  • PlainMean January 17, 2012 at 3:01 pm

I think the title “Privilidged Girls” is distasteful, but maybe I’m being overly sensitive… Pretty girl though.

    • Jess January 17, 2012 at 3:36 pm

@PlainMean that was my initial reaction as well…not everyone is privileged.

And to be honest the bracelets are a bit over priced for the quality…I have made jewelry in the past and those bracelets don’t look very high quality and could be sold for $20-30 and still make pretty good profit. $68 is excessive. But hey…I guess that’s why they call it “Privileged Girls”

    • Trisha January 17, 2012 at 5:27 pm

I agree! Not all girls are privileged & this might make them feel some sort of way. Not very humble…

& it’s over priced. $68 for a bracelet that is gold-plated (which means it’ll tarnish) & some rhinestones? Girl stop
& the website was a pain to read lol. She needs to change the font

Her daughter is extra cute tho

    • Sherley January 17, 2012 at 5:58 pm

I also agree. There are appropriate clothing for all children. I wouldn’t pay $30 for the above bracelet, much less $68, however, I have a son. However, her daughter is pretty.

      • Jess January 17, 2012 at 6:56 pm

If she’s charging $68 for a bracelet I can only imagine how much the clothing line will cost!

And if she’s targeting the 2-10 age range…there are PLENTY of age appropriate options…Gap Kids, Justice, Gymboree, Crazy 8, Old Navy, Target (they have some adorable little girl clothes!) ….the better target audience would be the 10-15 age group there is a shortage because girls at that age are too big to fit the kids sizes (or want something less baby looking) and are forced to shop in juniors sections which are indeed inappropriate.

I wish her the best though but if she’s serious about this business she needs to change some things.

    • shesallthat January 19, 2012 at 10:13 am

it’t the perfect name – because at her price points only ‘PRIVILEGED GIRLS’ that have parents with lots of money will be able to buy her jewelry. her company won’t last long with such a limited audience.

  • Pisces January 17, 2012 at 2:58 pm

Ditto. So cute and a nice product.
