How much is too much: Is social media keeping kids from just “talking”
Many teens these days are plugged into all forms of social media from Facebook to Twitter to Tumblr. Are all of these social media outlets keeping kids from actually being social? Kids are choosing to communicate about their lives and with their peers via the Internet versus having a phone conversation or sitting in a room and just talking.
Kids are attending parties just to have pictures to post to Facebook and Twitter and not fully enjoying the experience of just having a good time with their peers.
It may be time to cut down on the communication outlets that give kids the ability to pour their hearts out to hundreds of their closest “friends” and actually sit down with their true friends and their parents and talk about what’s going on in their lives.
What do you think about social media? Is there a such thing as too much?

Most kids now are overly exposed to technology and social media. As an RN working in pubic health, I’ve gone to trainings recently that talked about how over exposure is affecting neurobehavior in kids. Many parents are starting to present at their pediatricians offices with concerns about their children’s lack of focus, inability to sequence thoughts, poor decision making skills, and outrageous outbursts. Psychiatrist are now debating a new disorder: addiction to the internet (which includes gaming, social media, etc). Be weary…it is possible to raise a generation with such poor social skills that will not have basic communication skills, thus leading to increase crime, poor relationships, suicide, etc.
This is certainly high quality on this weblog.
I believe, if all site owners including blog writers made superb site content like you could, the web could be significantly more helpful than
previously. Many thanks!!
i agree 100%. Not only are children consumed in social media, but adults too. I have noticed that my daughter would much rather text her friend than talk to them. I also think that they loose many “real” social skills because of all of the technology. I seen that children can barely answer a telephone and even hold a proper phone conversation. Just because these things are popular and are supposed to be advancement does not mean that they are helping our children.
