BRANDY AND MONICA HAVE CHILDREN WHO WANT TO BE LIKE THEM

Singers Brandy Norwood and Monica Brown have a lot in common. Aside from being famed artists of their time, the R&B vocalists are proud mothers of children who want to follow in their footsteps.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Brandy said that 9-year-old daughter Sy’rai possesses the talent and drive to be the next great singer. Brandy, however, is not ready to let that happen. As the singer explains, “She’s [Sy'rai] into her school work and her education but singing is all she does, watching videos and making up routines. I’m seeing the signs, but I want her to hold on a little longer and have a regular childhood.”

Although not vocally inclined like his mother, Monica’s eldest son Rodney,6, plans to make his mark in the music industry. Brown states, “Rodney is a drummer. He is only 6½ and is in the third grade. He wants to go to college like [my husband] Shannon and he’s serious about musical intent — he plays his drums daily and asks for lessons. He asked me, ‘Can you call Travis Barker and have him come give me drum lessons?’”

When asked about their newest duet “It All Belongs to Me” Monica said, “We had to get here as people first before we could do anything musically [again] and be the artists that we are, the mothers that we are.” Brandy’s response? “We are ready to sing!”

Both Norwood and Brown have albums set to debut this year. Both artists also anticipate having more children in the future.

Why don’t we ever get pictures of Keyshia Coles son? He’s so handsome

Rodney is 6.5 years old and in third grade? One smart kid to skip two grades

    Cute!

I follow Monica on twitter and by NO means has she forgotten about Rocko. They always do things as a family with their kids. This ONE short interview is NO way to have her feelings. She spoke VERY highly of her children’s father in her new Sister to sister article and spoke on how they make sure they spend alot of time with them. She actually said love should never turn to hate. And that respect and love have kept their friendship in great shape. People look for things. I’m super proud of Lil Rodney and Romelo. She speaks of the daily. Let’s all stop looking for things

I love Brandy and Monica… they are both beautiful.

I’ve been a fan of both these ladies! When I hear an old skool jam by them I look at my little brother and tell him this is my era! Before u walk out my life and I wanna be down I still listen to these songs to this day! Love love them :)

I love them together and I love the new single. Been waiting for them to do something since The Boy Is Mine. They are great role models for their kids.

I adore Rodney and Romelo Hill.

I want Monica and Shannon to have a baby soon. It’s non of my business, but they’re both gorgeous people and seem like wonderful individuals…plus Rodney, Romelo and Little Shannon are the cutest little boys, so it’s no doubt their baby will be, too. :)

      I agree!!

  • Trisha February 24, 2012 at 11:40 am

How come Monica didn’t say her son wanted to be in the music industry like his dad…but she said he wanted to go to college like her husband? It seems like she completely cut Rocko out the picture…

    • Jess February 24, 2012 at 12:22 pm

I have no complaints..it is refreshing to see a 6 year old who wants to go to college. I am so tired of hearing about kids wanting to be rappers. I am happy!

    • EVELINA RAE February 24, 2012 at 1:00 pm

I think maybe ’cause little Rodney doesn’t want to be in that, rapping, part of the music industry like his dad. It seems like he wants to be more like his Step Dad, getting an education, past high school, which seems much better to me. Monica didn’t say he wanted to be in the music industry like her either. Rodney’s calling seems more non vocal, which non of his parents seem to posses.

      • Trisha February 24, 2012 at 1:18 pm

She said her son has the musical intent & loves playing the drums. That deals w/ music industry right? I love that he’s thinking about college but in general & from other interviews, it seems like Monica forgot about rocko & making everything & her kids about shannon. That’s just my observation

        • Kim February 24, 2012 at 4:12 pm

She said her son wants to attend college(Shannon) and musically- play drums(Travis Barker) Does his dad play drums? Just asking?

  • Nicole February 24, 2012 at 11:19 am

Can’t wait to hear both albums always been a fan of both. And wow Rodney is 1 smart little boy.

  • GoldenGirl February 24, 2012 at 11:16 am

I love these two! Great mothers and role models. We always see Monica changing up her hair style, I would like to see Brandy do the same. A short cut would look fab on her.

    • bck reader February 24, 2012 at 9:21 pm

Brandy’s current hairstyle is different than how it is on this picture. it’s really cute on her. on The Game, she’s got straight bangs and a straight below the shoulder cut. fits her face and frame.

  • TheRealAshland February 24, 2012 at 11:14 am

people forget Monica graduated high school at 16, she is smart and her kids are gifted and adorable.

    • Sherley February 26, 2012 at 10:04 am

Monica graduated at 16 as she was in the music industry before she was 14. Many of these children do not attend regular school but are tested out. If she was that smart, she should have attended college while she was on hiatus from 16-19.

Not being negative, just stating a fact.

  • MelO February 24, 2012 at 10:29 am

“6 1/2 and is in the third grade”?! Wow!!! Monica is raising handsome AND intelligent young men. I love it!

  • Tryna Makit February 24, 2012 at 10:19 am

    Beautiful role models.
