Maybe it’s just me but I detected a little shade BCK. I really hope it wasn’t your intent because if so, it was completely petty & unnecessary.

Anyway, I love seeing these two. They just don’t come any cuter.

I think they’re just reporting what this other website reported. But for the record, Mariah did not release the new pic of Roc & Roe after Beyonce did. She told her fans and uploaded the picture of the twins BEFORE them.

Not that it would matter anyway. The media and certain fans really need to get over themselves, and stop trying to kick up unnecessary drama. Mariah has the right to release pictures of her kids anytime she wants, same goes for Beyonce; this is not a competition.

Monroe and Moroccan are two little cuties, and so chubby. Moroccan looks like Mariah, but I swear I see more Nick in him. Monroe looks like Nick’s mother Mama Beth, but her and Mariah favor one too if you ever see a picture of them together.

Not surprising…I’ve seen lots of Black people who have a light parent and a dark skinned parent but who come out fairer skinned. Surprisingly enough, I’ve seen more people who come out that way than people with a White mom and Black dad, for some reason. Genetics is curious stuff! :-)

Those babies are gorgeous :) but there is something that I don’t understand with americans : if Mariah is bi-racial and Nick is black , how come their children came out looking like children borm from both pure white parents ??? I don’t get it !(aren’t they meant to be 3/4 black and only a 1/4 white ???) It is exactely the same thing with Garcelle Beauvais and her twins, she would pass more as their nanny(the help lool) than their mother !!!

Jewell, I’d suggest you take a look at African-American magazines like ‘Ebony’ (especially the old editions) and Black history books. Go to Flickr, where there are tons of pictures from vintage Black magazines. You will see SO many light skinned Black people from Black parents, it’ll make your head spin. It is soooo common in the Black community. We come in different shades and different mixtures. And besides, why is it surprising that Mariah, a white-looking woman, would have fair-skinned babies?

@ Victoria… Thank you for the FYI. I know you were responding to Jewell, but I love looking at history through photos, and my word. For anyone with doubt, they should definately take your advice and educate themselves!! We as a people come in so many beautiful shades, different texture of hair and features. We are beautiful!!

          @Toya,
Yes, I love learning about the history of people of African descent. I’m kind of like the family archivist, recently. I put together a family album as well as galleries with the theme of ‘vintage Black women’ over at Flickr because of my love of history and vintage African-American imagery! :-)

Why did you say Americans? You can look at any country & see the tricky genetics of black people play out. The best example is Brazil. Many of them are of African decent but their kids will come out looking white. I’ll give you an example. My friend is Brazilian. Her mom is Afro-Brazilian. Two of her daughters came out looking white or you can say more European. While her last daughter, my friend, came out Afro-Brazilian. My friend had a daughter by a guy who was half black & half white. Their baby came out w/ blond hair & blue eyes & is as pale as ever lol. We call her snow white. People don’t even think that’s their baby b/c they both are brown skinned & the baby is white. Mariah doesn’t even look mix & Nick Cannon & his family aren’t that dark so i don’t understand why people think the twins should be darker. I would think of another story if these twins came out caramel lol

    • Shi February 13, 2012 at 4:37 pm

I have a very close friend that is about the same complexion as Monroe but both of her parents are brown skin. People ask her all the time if she’s mixed, because she is so fair. I use to tease her and say that her daddy is the milk man, but it was just a joke as I understand that biology and genetics does not ask permission for what it wants to do. The interesting thing is, her sister who is a few years younger than her and looks JUST like her, is very dark skin and much darker than her parents. When I tell you these two girls look JUST alike, I mean they look JUST alike. With the exception of a very noticeble difference in skin color. Both have long, thick hair but the darker sister’s hair is more coarse than the fair sister.

I also know of others, including cousins, who are much lighter (or darker) than their parents. As I said, genetics pretty much just do what they want.

As for why…I think the simple reason is that people in America tend to marry and/or just procreate with people of different races more so than in other countries. Most African American’s ancestory doesn’t just trace back to Africa, but American Indians and Europe as well. But then there are some that have some Spanish, Asian and other ancestory as well. In short, most black people in America are actually a lot more diverse in ancestory than some people think. Sometimes it shows up in our features and skin color, sometimes you’d never know that that paticular “black” girl has a White and Amercan Indian Great-Grandmother (as in my case).

THEIR SKIN TONE DOES NOT MATTER. I CANT BELIEVE SOME PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SAY THAT IT IS BECAUSE NICK HAS WHITE SOMEWHERE IN HIS FAMILY. WE DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE. DID ANYONE SEE THE DNA VIDEO THAT HENRY LOUIS GATES DID? IT PROVED THAT SOMEONE BLACK WITH LIGHT SKIN HAD NO CAUCASION OR INDIAN HERITAGE AND YET THE DARK SKIN PERSON HAD INDIAN AND/OR WHITE HERITAGE. SO THIS PROVES THAT YOU NEVER KNOW AND YOU SHOULD NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.

      • Malina February 14, 2012 at 3:09 am

Even with DNA tests, professionals will tell you that you still need to know your family history, to really know the racial background.

I am going to try to answer some poeople question about some black people have light skin.

Since this is black history month, it goes way back to slavery when the white men (not all) use to fool around with the black female slaves. The white men never took care of the kids because they were consider black.

So that means that Nick might have white in his family from way back. That is why his kids look like that.

It has been my experience that it’s usually a white person that would think babies as fair skinned as these look white. We can usually still detect color in our own. To me these babies do not look white at all.

    • Victoria February 14, 2012 at 5:34 am

Yeah, as a mixed-heritage person, I would not think they were White. They’re beautiful babies of color who happen to be light-skinned. I think as people of color, we can always tend to tell when a fair-skinned person is part Black.

My husband and I are brown skinned people. Yet when we had our son, he came out white and I mean very white. People thought I was his nanny. However, as years went by he got darker however, however he is considered a lite skinned brother now that he is 23 years old. It’s all genetics, my husbands mother is lite skinned because her father is white and my mother’s father was half white. This is why our people are of some many wonderful colors.

That could be the answer: Nick must have had white roots before, Mariah anyway…as we all know…so it covers the genes of the kids. For me…I think they could look like white kids, but because we know their parents are not white we are trying to find something in them, like “not 100 % WHITE” lol…..whatever. But for me I´m honest…before Mariah gave birth I was curious how the babies will look like. But I didn´t expect lightskinned children, as they are. Still: I like the topic but I don´t want to offend their family.

These babies are too young to know what their complexion or hair texture will be. My brother & little cousin were born the same color as these babies. Neither of them are bi-racial (both sets of parents on the darker side) and today both are darker than Nick Cannon. Sometimes the melanin doesn’t kick in until later. Not to say that it always does. Rashida Jones is an example of that no melanin to speak of (slightly olive). Her parents are Quincy Jones & Peggy Lipton, but I didn’t even know she was bi-racial until I found who her parents were.

these babies are very light skinned with good hair and will stay that way they are almost a year old accept it! unlike blue ivy who WILL get darker and grow into the features she inherited from her dad the truth hurts….
