BEYONCE BREASTFEEDS IN PUBLIC

Beyonce has joined the millions of mothers who breastfeed in public. Us Weekly reports,”Escorted by husband Jay-Z, the ‘Girls (Run the World)’ singer, 30, took along daughter Blue Ivy, seven weeks, for a casual lunch at Sant Ambroeus in NYC’s West Village last Saturday. And Beyonce nursed her little girl at her the table, an observer tells Us Weekly. Two additional sources confirm to Us that the first-time mom has been breastfeeding her daughter.”

Although many mothers like Beyonce proudly breastfeed in public some still consider the act to be taboo. What do you think? Is breastfeeding a public or private act?

    I really don’t know what to think about women who truly believe (discreet) breastfeeding is ‘gross’. We’ll sit and watch violence every day that ends in ‘y’ – and allow our children to see it, but can’t stomach seeing one of the most natural acts in the world…

    Sometimes ‘civilized’ is nothing but another word for de-natured.

  • Cheesy March 3, 2012 at 12:55 am

    Well now due to the rumors ole’ gurl wasn’t ever pregnant & since you didn’t actually see a boob how are we to believe that she really breast fed her “Daughter” LOL!!!

  • TW March 3, 2012 at 12:19 am

    Please, I’m sure if she was breastfeeding she was covered up. It’s natural and some people should really get over themselves.

  • Dimpled2x March 2, 2012 at 7:27 pm

    Alot of you actually believe whatever the media feeds to you!! Unless you witnessed this first hand, you have no idea what happened in Bey & Jay’s life. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, please think before you start ranting about ppl that have no concern about what we may dicuss on here.

  • Niema Williams March 2, 2012 at 12:21 pm

    I think breastfeeding in public is cool just so long as proud moms are considerate of others especially children and the elderly. Some parents are trying to teach their children to be proud yet private or respectful of their bodies so seeing a fully exposed breast could cause a problem. And many older people are conservative. Your purpose of having your breast out is to feed your child, not pose nude or become a display so just cover yourself, no one needs to see your breast and nipple for your baby to eat. And remember you have deranged people who might see you feeding your child and become enticed, in some way, by it.

  • Clarissa March 2, 2012 at 11:06 am

    I think breastfeeding in public is so gross because it should just be a mother/daughter bond not publicly. The public shouldn’t be seeing no one breastfeeding their child and the mother should do that privately not by letting everyone seeing it. That’s just gross to me no more breasts out in public BEYONCE’ or anybody else.

  • theyknow March 2, 2012 at 10:28 am

    As long as they are ceovered I don’t have a problem with it. The baby has to eat.

    • Clarissa March 2, 2012 at 11:07 am

      breastfeed a child at home not in public with someone sees it or use a pump and put the milk in the bottle that’s just my opinion.

    • Pisces March 2, 2012 at 2:20 pm

      I admire this family for so many reasons. Even though both of these mega star parents are not touring, they show us that they are no better than the rest of us…they too are part of the 99percent.

      They certainly didn’t HAVE to feed their daughter out a restaurant while they were having lunch (they could have hopped into a limo or chilled in a private area at the Waldorf, free of cost because of their celebrity) but instead they made a statement with their actions…”We’re just like everybody else”.

  • caribbeanqueen March 2, 2012 at 9:38 am

    Everyone has their view but I’m not ashamed to breast feed in public. You just cover your self in a descent fashion and have your baby enjoy their meal. What’s the big deal?

  • pam March 2, 2012 at 8:49 am

    I agree. Jennifer Garner is there giving birth two months after Beyoncé, and so far we have not heard any stories of hospitals being shot down because of it, or had conflicting statement as whether the delivery was vaginal or through a C-section. Beyoncé has no one fooled. She needs to sit down in an interview and let the world know what really happened. The publicity stunts are seriously getting on my nerves. I USED TO BE A FAN!

  • jane March 2, 2012 at 8:46 am

    These are just stories planted by Beyoncé’s PR team to make us believe she actually gave birth. Breast feeding in public is fine, but it’s very out of character for Beyoncé. As if she left her house to go and breastfeed in public under all those layers of clothes. And in the world we live in, nobody was around to snap a photo? Wake up people wake up!!!!!!

    • universitychick March 2, 2012 at 6:59 pm

      Basically.

  • Seriously(therealone) March 2, 2012 at 5:38 am

    To each his own. I will NOT be breastfeeding when I have my future children, but to the person carrying on about formula(cows milk). So you agree w/me that it makes more sense for the human babies to drink cow milk and not human milk? High five!

    • Pisces March 2, 2012 at 2:32 pm

      Not all formula is made from cows milk. Before the 1800′s when mothers could not breast feed or died from child birth, the babies were given cow, goat and sheep milk instead if they weren’t fed by other human female mammals that were lactating at the time and acting as wet nurses.

      Other creature’s milks have brought human civilization a long way since the beginning of time. Even today cow’s milk is served twice a day to kids in public schools with government approval, as well as the approval of many parents.

      Of course, human breast milk is ALWAYS better for newborns if it is available and not all toxic from the mother being a drunk or heroin addict. Whatever the mother consumes while breast feeding the baby shares it, too.

      I guess that may be a valid reason why people can’t seem to think straight these days.

      There’s a whole body of study and research out there on this topic.

  • Rae March 2, 2012 at 12:04 am

    People would rather watch someone have sex on a public bench than see a women breastfeed her baby. What is wrong with the world? Ain’t nothing wrong with a women breastfeeding in public!

  • lovinglife March 1, 2012 at 9:14 pm

    I doubt she is Breastfeeding in any of those pics!

  • Lisa March 1, 2012 at 8:53 pm

    I am pro breastfeeding whenever and where ever. Only in certain countries does this “debate” come up. I don’t advocate bare breasts hanging out with a baby dangling from it because it’s your right to breast feed (I’ve witnessed it. What’s seen cannot be unseen!!!) but don’t tell me that discreet nursing is a no-no! If everyone else can eat in public so can babies. And why should she pump into a bottle so everyone else can be comfortable? Why risk nipple confusion, deal with sanitizing and all that jazz when her breasts are there and available? Stupse!

    • Jo Somebody March 2, 2012 at 7:10 am

      Agreed 100000%! Boobs are everywhere! In the UK we have a national newspaper that has a bare-chested lady on Page 3 every single day with no protests and no age limit to buy the paper, yet a woman can’t use her breast for what it’s designed for discretely simply because some people get uncomfortable??

      Modern day craziness.

  • Eva March 1, 2012 at 6:42 pm

    There’s nothing wrong with breastfeeding but seriously you people are just defending Beyonce. A mother that breastfeeds knows that you have to pump while busy and can’t tend to your baby. A baby has to eat? Exactly you are right so why didn’t the mother pump before she left the house knowing her child would have to eat? Especially someone like Beyonce who is a working mom and not a housewife she should know better. It IS disgusting to do that in public. Stop with all this “it’s natural” crap it is natural but in public it’s disgusting and shows signs of bad parenting like seriously what woman doesn’t think about her child not eating? that’s like a mom leaving formula at home & scrambling to go buy some or look for an alternative…the pump was created for a reason, you would not be smiling and awing if this was an average women breastfeeding in public

    • Lia March 7, 2012 at 10:18 pm

      NON American experiences and views of Breastfeeding..

      “In Ghana bottlefeeding is for orphans, babies whose mothers cannot produce enough milk, upper class wannabes and expatriates. Ghanaian women breastfeed – everywhere and anywhere. The poor ones just whip it out, let it show. The rich ones have special tops made so its not ALL hanging out. Growing up I used to watch my neighbour breastfeed her baby – all the kids would gather and stare in astonishment…and NO ONE had a problem with it. If you grow up thinking its normal, you will NEVER be offended.

      PS>…this is not the ‘Africans run around naked’ thing. There are very high levels of decency and even tight pants are frowned upon. But you baby’s gotta eat! Breastfeeding ALL the way.”
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      “In Israel breastfeeding is heavily supported and promoted by hospitals, paediatricians and the general community, and rates are very high. Many women breastfeed in restaurants and cafes, at the mall, or anywhere where their baby might be hungry. Some women like to place a cloth diaper over themselves while latching on, others just slip the child under their shirt quietly. In general people are supportive. It seems that countries that are more open and relaxed about bodies and sexuality are less worried about the “exposure” that might take place.”
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Trinidad
      I was born and raised in Trinidad and I’m now living in the US. Breastfeeding is very accepted in Trinidad. I have seen people breastfeeding in taxis, buses, parks etc. Most women cover up, some don’t when breastfeeding in public. At home they just let it all hang out. Some moms breastfeed past one year but most try to do it for at least six months.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      I was born in Brazil, married an american man and now we live in the US. And it has been shocking for me to see how breastfeeding in America is such a taboo!
      In Brazil almost all women breastfeed their babies. It’s cultural. They do it mostly anywhere, and people see it naturally. Should a woman decide from the beginning NOT to breastfeed, she’s likely to see plenty of puzzled faces asking her “But… why would you do that?”
      Also, there are campaigns in hospitals, magazines and billboards that show a picture of a breastfeeding baby, with the message “Breastfeeding is an act of LOVE”, giving incentive for women to try harder in case they find any difficulties.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~R~~
      I was born in Jordan and was raised there too. Breasfeeding Is very common and normal there. Most mothers breast feed their kids in public with out being bothered by others. They are very supportive about nuriting their babies and feeding them any time they are hungry. But since I moved to the United States, NY, I see that breast feeding in public is not as comfortable. People give you different looks and stare at you while you need your privacy.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~R~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Kolkata, India
      Breastfeeding in public is very common in Kolkata. I have seen many women breastfeeding their babies in buses, trams, trains and other public places. Some of them cover but most of them do not. It is not considered a sexual activity here.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Turkey
      In Turkey mothers are seen holy cretaures during pregnancy and after.Breastfeeding is seen very natural and nobody sees a breastfeeding mother as a sexual object it is seen as feeding the baby. Of course it depends on the ladies’ being shy or not,too. You know sometimes there are ladies who are even shy to breastfeed or change clothes near even their girlfriends but other than that in Turkey breastfeeding is a natural event and everybody knows that if the baby is hungry he/she needs to feeded.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Guatemala
      We lived in Guatemala from 2002 to 2004 (I am originally from the U.S.) and I saw more breasts in those two years than at any other time in my life. Women would breastfeed anywhere and everywhere without covering up–in the queue at the bank, at the airport, in shopping malls and restaurants, in parks, on the sidewalk. It is viewed as completely natural and normal in Guatemala.
      ~~~RR~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~RR~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      ********************************************************************
      Breastfeeding experiences in the USA:

      “State: Arkansas
      I have lived in the same place all of my 18 years of life, and never have I seen anyone breastfeeding in public. From what I understand, most men in Arkansas only want to view the breast as a sex object and not for it’s actual worth. As a pregnant woman, I do want to breastfeed, but I feel a bit self conscious about the idea of exposing my breast in public because of the fact that so many people here are judgemental. I think that breastfeeding should be seen as a natural event and promoted more in public places, especially in Arkansas.”
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~R~~~~~~~~R~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~RR~~~~~RR~
      If ever I got any sort of look from anyone, I figured it was that person’s problem, not mine. I always felt like women who gave their babies bottles of formula were the ones who should feel embarrassed, not the breastfeeding moms! It helped that my husband was from Iran and completely comfortable with breastfeeding as a way of life. He himself had not only been breastfed by his mother, but also his family had a wet nurse that the children had all fed from when they were babies/toddlers!
      I think it is ridiculous that American culture sexualizes the breast to the point of even girls and women saying, “Ewww” about breastfeeding. It is the third stage of pregnancy, after the gestation, the birth itself. It is natural, sterile, always ready, free, and creates a beautiful bond between mother and baby that is not accomplished any other way. It is demanding, yes, because a mom is always near her babies (from time to time you may be away for a couple hours, but your life is scheduled around having the breast available for most of that child’s early life) but I would not have given it up for the world.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~R~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      State: rural NY
      I’ve been breatfeeding my 3 month old son and have not recieved any negetive comments or looks. I did embarrass one older man but he appologized and walked away blushing as if it were his fualt. I don’t really cover up when I nurse but I do use a sling that offers some coverage (to respond to a previous poster, an unpadded ring sling works well for petite people like me).

      Before having my son I worked at a daycare and noticed that lower income women were the ones most likely to use artificial milk to feed their babies while the middle class moms were most likely to breastfeed. This really makes no sense to me as they have the same pediatrician and all delived at the same hospital (it’s a small town) but that’s how it is. I genuinely hope things change as the lower class moms would really benefit from the savings (and the fewer Dr visits).

      State: New York

      I had my first child in Germany, and got balled out by the germans for NOT breast feeding in public!! They consider it very natural up to whatever age works for the mom generally. I breast feed him until he was two. My second child was born in the United States. Breast feeding her in public was a nightmare, right from the beginning! I don’t know what sexual issues American’s have with breasts, but its ridiculous! The number of times people had a fit, even when I was being discrete, was just insane! I didn’t care though, I breast feed her until she was 3. It amazes me…. breast milk is the perfect food (and free!) and people in the U.S. scream about nursing a child but have no problem with you giving them the most unhealthy junk food!!!! What is WRONG with Americans??????

      • Pisces March 21, 2012 at 12:41 am

        Nothing is wrong with us Americans…no more than whatever is wrong with your people. Why waste your time on an American blog? Makes absolutely no sense.

  • princess.. March 1, 2012 at 6:23 pm

    AND SO WHAT IF SHE WAS…BABY BLUE IVY HAS TO EAT TOO…GET OVER YOUR SELF.

    • Pisces March 2, 2012 at 1:30 am

      @princess…

      Sure the baby has to eat, but not necessarily breast milk. This is the 21st century…come join the rest of us. And, you ask, what could happen if the baby is contaminated with silicon residue or other toxins from the mother?. .uh get really sick for one, maybe even die as some women with silicon leaks have done or the baby could become crazy like some people in this room who will remain unnamed.

      Women can choose to feed their young ones however they wish…not necessarily the way our close cousin chimps do because they haven’t quite evolved as far as Paleo humans (us). No one is disputing this.

      Believe me, if you took a poll in America, the majority of humans born after the 1950′s were not breast fed by mothers for various reasons…like some had to go to work and couldn’t feed the baby or some may have crack alcohol or other drugs in their systems when the baby was born or HIV for that matter. For some women it may be just too painful to breast feed.

      In spite of that, breast fed, or not many people have grown up to be great and contributed to the world. Everyone is weaned eventually..that is for sure.

      The human brain evolved a little more and discovered how to make formula and how to milk cows to sustain and nurture human young.

      I think chimps and female pigs, cats and dogs would do the same if God gave them sense enough to do it.

      I think it takes a lot of guts for a person with such an egocentric moniker to suggest to someone else to “get over themselves”.

      • Oxford 2013 March 2, 2012 at 8:02 am

        @Pisces, you know you’re my mate and everything (Ms. Sherley comes first) and us Pisces got to stick together but please tell me you were taking the piss when you wrote this. :-)

        Pisces, I’m not going to dispute the validity of your poll but I’ve been volunteering (or as I say conscripted :-) ) at our pro bono clinics in Atlanta and Houston since I’ve been nine or ten. I’ve gotten to know the women and when they come in, even right after giving birth in that four to six week period, you see them in the waiting room feeding their babies with formula and Pisces they are not giving their babies formula because they are working and can’t breastfeed, they are giving their babies formula because they want to.

        My aunties push all this literature on them about the benefits of breastfeeding, parade me and my brothers and cousin around like papishows so they can see how healthy breastfed babies we are and how we’ve never been sick, but they still stick to formula.

        The clinic gives them brochures showing how WIC promotes breastfeeding with free breast pumps and WIC Breast feeding peer counseling programs, then there is FNS (food stamps) which offers HIP that promotes breastfeeding via fresh fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods like whole grains.

        Pisces I don’t mean to be harsh but when you have women who do not work yet have to be begged to bring themselves and their kids into the clinic to be seen regularly BUT CAN’T FIND THE TIME OR INCLINATION TO USE THEIR BREASTS TO FEED THE BABIES THEY BROUGHT INTO THE WORLD CHOOSING INSTEAD TO BOTTLE FEED THEIR BABIES FORMULA RATHER THAN BREAST MILK BECAUSE THEY SEE THE PURPOSE OF THEIR BREAST AS SOMETHING SEXUAL then we haven’t EVOLVED we are DE-VOLVING. To think that nature has made the perfect food for little humans made by the human body but we are choosing to give our babies food made by cows then thank God “chimps and female pigs, cats and dogs DO NOT have sense enough to do it.

        Of course there are some children that for whatever reason thrive better on cow or soy milk rather than breast milk, but we aren’t talking about them.

        I did some quick research of my own and found that only 27% of Black women breastfeed their children once they leave hospital and of the 27% a great majority of those women are women who HAVE GONE BACK TO WORK and are committed with the support of their spouses, families and co-workers, to breastfeeding their babies so they make time to pump while at work so their babies can have milk while they are away from their mums and to keep their milk from drying out. These are probably the women that you see breastfeeding in public, so cut them some slack, offer to buy them a bottle of water since breastfeeding makes them thirsy. My mum told me that once when she was feeding me an older gentleman offered to cut her food up so it would be easier for her to eat. She was too grateful to be embarrassed.

        I know two such committed women (two of my rolemodels); my uncles wife who started her medical residency after giving birth and my own mum. Both my tia (my uncles wife) and my mum still pump regularly even though their children (one girl and twin boys) are now two years old. My tia and my mum freeze and store milk for my brother. He adopted a baby girl last year and my niece has never had commercial formula, she had donated breast milk while she was still in hospital.

        My tia and my mum will continue to pump until my niece is weaned. That may sound gross to some people but that’s what families do for each other. BTW, My niece was born 2 1/2 months early to an HIV+ drug abusing mother. She is eight months old now (actual eight months, not adjusted), is stepping off, she can swim, is riding the horses, has a big vocabulary even though sometime we are not sure what she is trying to say since five languages are spoken in our homes. Her pediatrician says that even if he can’t put his hand on a bible and swear on it that her being (EBF) exclusively breast fed with donor milk from my mum and tia had a lot to do with her not only reaching her developmental milestones but surpassing them.

        Pisces, now that I said that we can go back to being mates. What are you doing for your birthday? My birthday is on Monday, so this is my birthday weekend and its going to be CRAZY.:-)

        • Sherley March 2, 2012 at 10:32 am

          Happy early b-day sweetie. Have a fun filled, crazy, happy, safe weekend!

          • Oxford 2013 March 2, 2012 at 12:22 pm

            THANK YOU, THANK YOU Ms. Sherley. Tomorrow night is my “coming out” :-) party, I’m in transit right now ( I’m passing my time surfing the net ). After my debut on Saturday night I’m going to get up to go to early Sunday mass then get down and dirty with the boys. We are going hunting on a controlled ranch, then horseback riding, I got a new saddle for VD which I want to break in. If we’re not too wiped out on Sunday night we’ll watch a years worth of “all the stupid things that “Oxford” has done for the past year that she was dumb enough to get caught doing on video”.

            I’m just so blessed Ms. Sherley, my siblings and I are one of the few families I know that has great-greats still living (like my maternal great-great uncle and his partner, four great grandparents, paternal great-uncle plus a few others), they are all going to be with us this weekend. They are always the best part of these birthday weekends.

            You have fun too. Why don’t you surprise your son with a “date night” tonight. I love it when my dad surprises me with those.

        • Pisces March 2, 2012 at 12:30 pm

          Dear Oxford 2013..I absolutely LOVED your response to my comments. I admire your sensibility and intelligence very much for someone as young as you are. I am on leave now, but I am a Special Education teacher by profession and I ADORE students/children of all ages and especially those like yourself who can effectively use their critical thinking skills.

          Your points are well received and well taken by me on this topic of breastfeeding. I love the fact that BCK provides thought provoking topics for us to share about in addition to letting us see our favorite stars and their kids.

          I am not always right, but I am inclined for the most part to do the research. I worry more about the junk food we pollute our bodies with when we grow up and can make our own food choices.

          HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, mi amore.

          • Pisces March 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm

            “By the 1800′s scientists and doctor’s began to investigate what was needed in food mixes for babies to thrive. In 1867, the first commercially available baby food was created by Justus von Liebig. After that, many other kinds of baby formulas were made.

            By 1950, more than half of the babies in the USA were fed some form of baby formula.

            By the 1970′s the pendulum began to swing back in favor of breast feeding.”

            Steve Jobs, born in 1955, pioneered a series of revolutionary technologies including the iPhone and the iPad. Steve Jobs was given up by his mother for adoption at birth. He likely was not breast fed, but just look at his contribution to the world. The very tool we are exchanging words with now came from someone whose mother did not breast feed or nurture him, yet he grew up to have brilliant, high functioning brain.

            Many babies died from starvation before the invention of formula if their mother’s died in child birth or couldn’t breast feed for a number of reasons.

            It is interesting that it was a MAN who developed formula which in turn freed women from being tied to the home to breastfeed. This was at the beginning of the Industrial Era.

          • Oxford 2013 March 2, 2012 at 2:54 pm

            THANK YOU,Pisces I love how we could agree or disagree and still be mates at the end.

            Thanks for wishing me happy BDay. I’m having a crazy BDay weekend. On Sat Night is my coming out Debut Party, after Sat night I will no longer be “Little Miss Oxford” but “Young Miss Oxford”. In two more years I will “Miss Oxford”. Too much right? But tradition is tradition.

            On Sunday after mass we are doing boy stuff, Hunting, skeet shooting, and horsback riding, I’m breaking in a new saddle.

            I’m not going back to school until midweek since my B-Day is monday.I’m traveling right now, Can’t wait to get in tonight.

            Pisces, good to know we are still mates. BTW do you remember if it was @misunderstood or @seriously that was planning to get married and have a baby this year? I wonder their plans are coming along?

      • NNN March 20, 2012 at 9:41 pm

        WOWO i’ve never heard so much CRAP in my life…as a student of human science the “our bodies have evolved” is crap..In fact it is the biggest fallacies with human evolution as we have been BREAST FEEDING since the conception of man. Your argument makes no sense..Until MAMMALS ( come on it’s in the name..live births and lactating) stop having breast that produce food then we can talk about evolving past breast feeding till then ..I AGREE based ont he side of countless science and pure common sense.

        • Pisces March 21, 2012 at 12:37 am

          Don’t misconstrue what I said..I did not say that humans no longer breast feed, I said that humans have evolved beyond other mammals in that we have developed other methods of early feedings. We know how to use other mammals milk in a bottle to keep us alive if necessary, unlike lesser mammals/animals.

          Bottles and formula come in handy, say, if a mother dies in child birth and is not around to breast feed. There are various human conditions that cause a human mammal to have the inability to feed their child breast milk.

          My point is not that we don’t breast feed, it’s that the human brain has evolved to a point which we have devised other methods of feeding newborns if necessity warrants it.

          Hope this clarifies my meaning to you. I graduated college ,too. Master’s level.

          • Pisces March 21, 2012 at 12:48 am

            @NNN…..Most other animals die if their mother rejects them or doesn’t breast feed. We humans have “learned” how to thrive and survive whether a female mammal chooses to breast feed or not.

            Thank goodness even a man can stick a bottle in his baby’s mouth if the mother is not around to breast feed.

            It’s the EVOLUTION of the human brain that distinguishes us as opposed to other mammals.

  • Pisces March 1, 2012 at 5:25 pm

    Well, that’s what primates do. Regardless of evolution.

    • Pisces March 1, 2012 at 5:38 pm

      Breastfeeding and the Paleo child….nothing wrong with it until they turn 3 years old and start asking for it in complete sentences. Probably a good idea to wean them early no matter how natural it is.

      • Sherley March 1, 2012 at 6:08 pm

        Hey Pisces, have you heard Nia Long & Ike got eloped on V-day? Hope BCK posts it.

        • Pisces March 1, 2012 at 9:02 pm

          Hey Sherley, no, I hadn’t heard about Nia and her beau. Congrats to them! I hope BCK shows us pics of them and I would also love to see an update of Nixon Knowles, Blue Ivy’s baby uncle. He must be at least year now or thereabouts.

          Thanks for reminding me of Nia. Her baby is so cute, too. Keep em coming, BCK because Sherley, Misunderstood and many more just ADORE all dem babies. :)

          • Pisces March 1, 2012 at 9:06 pm

            I meant to add myself in the list of who loves BCK babies and their parents. Take care Sherley. You’re such a sweet person. I can tell this, sight unseen.

            :D

      • Pisces March 1, 2012 at 9:15 pm

        It’s all good as long as there’s no cross contamination or toxicity exposed to the baby from leaky silicon implants or any other chemicals in the body.

  • Yvette Morrow March 1, 2012 at 4:13 pm

    Why do we as women have to feel uncomfortable about feeding our children naturally. Other people’s hang ups and inseurities should never weigh in on decisions that we make for children. I’m sure Beyonce was being discreet, but because she’s Beyonce, everyone was clued to her every move and therefore figured out she was nursing her baby. Folks need to grow up. We’ve got bigger issues in the world and breastfeeding babies isn’t one of them! Or as Jay used to say, “I’ve got 99 problems and you ain’t one of them!”

  • Robbie March 1, 2012 at 2:38 pm

    As long as she wasn’t asking for a parade and confetti while she was breastfeeding, I could care less. How someone chooses to feed their child is their prerogative. Breastmilk or formula…do what works for you and your child.

  • bee March 1, 2012 at 1:57 pm

    some people don’t pump very well as in you don’t get enough milk when you pump. babies mouths are designed to suckle in a certain way to drain the milk from all the ducts and if you have ever breastfed you understand how they do it, they actually use their mouths to tilt the nipple to drain the ducts that still have milk.

    when you pump, a pump can’t replicate that. it is just one standard pumping action so sometimes you can get milk out but not all of it and then some people have smaller milk duct channels than others making it even harder to pump. that is why doctors will tell yu that if you pump excusively as in never put hte baby to the breast, your milk supply will decrease because even though you are pumping you are not draining out all the ducts.

    honestly before i had a baby i thought the idea of breastfeeding in public was gross but once i had a child, you kind of grow up and realize that breasts are for nursing. i applaud beyonce for putting the needs of her child first. breastfeeding isn’t just a newborn’s source of nutrition but its a newborns comfort source if they have it so she may have chosen to bf at the restaurant not because baby was hungry (in which case she could have given in a bottle) but to soothe an overstimulated or tired baby.

    i did that many times, in doctor’s office when baby was overstimulated and freaked out by getting shots etc. it helps to calm a stressed out baby. no i know what that pic of beyonce and baby the baby was staring at her like that. she developed a bond with that baby by breastfeeding. i give her much respect. my baby is 13 months and even though he obviously doesn’t need breastmilk for food because he eats solids, he will bury his head in my chest when he is scared or has been hurt or something like that.

    i know it will end soon, they grow so fast so i let him be comforted the way he knows. for those who don’t have children, when you do and if you give yourself the chance to experience breastfeeding, trust me, your views will change assuming you succeed at breastfeeding for even a 3-months (it is hard!).

    by the way i always covered up when I breastfed and I am sure bey did too but you know what? it wasn’t to satisfy onlookers who would be ‘grossed’ out, it was to give my baby privacy and to keep something very private and intimate, private and intimate. i wasn’t thinking about anyone else and i bet neither is bey.

    i dont think there is anything wrong with it as long as the mother is hiding her boob and not causing a scene about it. the baby has to eat regardless. if the mom isn’t attracting attention and shes covered up then its okay. people do this everyday youre not going to die if you see a woman breast feeding her child i promise.

  • Lisa March 1, 2012 at 1:01 pm

    Allot of mothers breast feed to get their weight down.

  • Oxford 2013 March 1, 2012 at 12:16 pm

    Why is breastfeeding in public an issue again? Babies have to eat…they say to hell with “your” schedule is…and its perfectly natural. Before the advent of the bottle how do you think babies got fed? Travel the world people you’ll see more than a mother discreetly breastfeeding like in the US, you’ll see the whole ti**ie.

    With five younger brothers and numerous “ilttle” people in our family I’ve seen my share of hungry babies being fed “whereever”.

    What do you think about babies being breastfed by someone other than their mothers? When my mum has ran out of milk I’ve seen either one of my aunts phisically breastfeed feed my brothers and vice versa. Also, I have an adopted niece who has never had formula. Between my aunt and my mum, they pump enough extra milk to feed her without my brother having to resort to formula. She is alsmost a year old and has never had commercial formula.

    • Sherley March 1, 2012 at 1:30 pm

      That’s what I was thinking Oxford..this topic again?

      Nothing’s wrong with breast feeding, it’s a natural thing & babies need to eat. Unless you are one of those women who just pulls it out & then pop it in baby’s mouth, it’s not a big deal. Most women do it & no one knows it’s being done. Doesn’t bother me.

      Feed your daughter Beyonce..breast milk is the best.

  • Shevonne March 1, 2012 at 11:50 am

    It is natural to breastfeed your baby. It’s not like formula and bottles were around in the beginning of time. Breastfeeding was the only way to feed your baby for centuries. There is nothing gross about it. I have three kids of which two were exclusively breastfed. There were times I had to breastfeed in public because let’s face it, we can’t pick and choose when they will be hungry or need comfort. I was always, and still continue to be, very discreet as I do realize there are people out there not comfortable with the practice. I commend Beyonce not only for choosing the best way to feed her baby but also for giving her baby what she needed despite her surroundings.

  • Anonymous March 1, 2012 at 11:48 am

    All I can is, Gross!! They should have a place for mother’s to feed their babies. Nobody wants to look at mother breast feeding there kids. Gross!!

  • Misunderstood March 1, 2012 at 11:38 am

    I don’t consider it to be a bandwagon if her baby needs to be fed then feed that baby!

  • Pisces March 1, 2012 at 11:30 am

    She really likes the color blue in all shades. Cute.

  • -___- March 1, 2012 at 11:07 am

    BTW: She’s bumming out now. Wearing bummy jackets and $2 skully hats.

  • Jonella March 1, 2012 at 10:53 am

    Yeah but you know you have to actually be PREGNANT to produce milk. I’m just saying….

  • yep March 1, 2012 at 10:34 am

    she probably just used her breast as a pacifier,i have seen people doing that,or she was feeding the baby from a tube .she want to prove that she was actually pregnant… i saw an adopted mom do it. there was some kind of tube strapped to the breast attached to a milk bag…i thought that was so weird…..

    hey I’m just kidding about bey-once not being pregnant ok. that’s her business and nobody else’s

  • Nya Assis March 1, 2012 at 10:18 am

    Oh my gosh…why the HELL would it be a problem to nurse in public?!?! [sentence omitted]If your child is hungry and there is no place to duck off to please FEED YOUR BABY! Make sure to use one of those stylish cover ups for the lame prudes that are lurking around.

  • universitychick March 1, 2012 at 10:10 am

    Yall sure this aint just another rumor? I mean, US weekly IS a tabloid…………..

  • DLAILA March 1, 2012 at 10:06 am

    I hope not in public!

  • CeCeBreeMom March 1, 2012 at 10:02 am

    Yes, I agree that the “bandwagon” word is a bit much. Im happy that she’s still able to be a nuturing mom while in public. Also love the fact that you dont see a nanny overseeing the baby while the couple enjoys lunch/brunch…good job Bey!

  • trinitt March 1, 2012 at 9:57 am

    Its her business. This should not be discused publicly and please don’t do it in public.

  • kim March 1, 2012 at 9:37 am

    I think its perfectly fine to breast feed in public as long as its done appropriately. The mother is covered because in the society we live in, people just don’t do it. If more mother’s know how beneficial it is for the children and for them, I feel more people will be more encouraged to do so. Benefits for the baby is closer bond between parent and child and healthier baby. The mother’s uterus is contracting back down to size and it helps with the mother’s weight loss. I breast fed my daughter until she was 1 years old and she hasn’t been a sickly child. She now 23 and I can count on one hand how many times she’s been sick.

  • Jessica March 1, 2012 at 9:32 am

    I think if you are covered with a blanket nobody should be turning their nose up at you or talking out the side of their mouth. Babies gotta eat and if I’m at a restaurant I’m not going to the dirty bathroom to feed my baby. Period. As long as no body part is exposed I don’t see how it’s anyone’s business. Good for Beyonce for doing what mother’s have been doing since the beginning of time and not being ashamed.

    • trinitt March 1, 2012 at 10:54 am

      You really grossed me out. Please pump before u leave the house. That way your milk will be in a bottle.

      • Jessica March 1, 2012 at 11:04 am

        I don’t have kids. But if I did how I feed my child is none of your concern.

        • trinitt March 1, 2012 at 11:28 am

          Its my concern if I’m eating dinner and you decide to whip your breast out. You will gross me out. Pump before you leave the house n use the bottle.

          • tanja March 1, 2012 at 1:55 pm

            lol…if the breast is covering…how is that whippin out your boob?….lol

          • Jessica March 1, 2012 at 5:16 pm

            You clearly missed the part where I said covered with a blanket.

          • taylr_womn81 March 1, 2012 at 6:36 pm

            @trinitt I have to assume you don’t have kids and that is why you made such a comment. Some mothers that breastfeed do not do the bottle at all for the first couple of weeks even if she pumped she may store the milk for later use.

          • Lia March 7, 2012 at 10:51 pm

            “State: New York

What is WRONG with Americans??????”

    • BossLady March 1, 2012 at 11:42 am

      I agree with you 110%! There’s nothing wrong with it! I don’t have kids, but if I did have an infant baby best believe I would be doing the same. It’s completely natural, what was she to do let her baby go hungry?!?!

      • trinitt March 1, 2012 at 11:53 am

        Its not anything wrong with it at all but when you are out in public at least.pump before you leave the house. Have some respect for others and class for yourselves.

        • stacy March 1, 2012 at 12:41 pm

          You are very ignorant! It has nothing to do with class. Breast feeding is very natural. That is what the breast are for. I’m sure no woman would be exposing their bare breast. Most women I see breast feeding has a cover up. You need to excuse yourself from the table sinced you’re grossed out. Educate yourself!!!!

        • missaah March 1, 2012 at 12:52 pm

          Please GROW UP!!! Breasts are used to feed. How other people take them is their issue. I’m SURE she’s not just whipping it out for the world to see and neither is anyone else. You can still be discreet and classy while breastfeeding your child. I WISH someone would ever tell me different.

    • DEESHA March 2, 2012 at 3:28 pm

      JESSICA………. i AGREE!!!!!! I am a mother of three and although i hated breastfeeding because it seemed like my kids never got full… when i did breastfeed in public i was always covered… i even bought a special wrap to help me transition into breastfeeding in public. i had a lady tell me that i should start feeding my baby in the bathroom.. but what she didnt expect me to say was… Why doesnt she try eating her lunch in the bathroom!!! its natural and a part of life!
