Not sure why you think it’s rare…maybe it’s just not publicized as much. More black children live in two parent homes today than they did 20 years ago.
@Hmmm, it depends on what your idea of a two parent home is. In 2012 you have two parents cohabitating BUT 20 or more years ago there were more Black children living with their MARRIED parents than now. Go futher back…it’s worse.
Even as slaves who were prohibited from marrying, unlike now, as soon as they were able to, they did. You can go online and check census records (

Keep an open mind and when you get a chance go to Hulu and watch Who do you think you are ?/Blair Underwood. Listen as the historians tell him his history from slavery on up.

Good for Nas. Even tho Nas & Destiny may have hung out before, seeing the pictures of them together now is beautiful. Maybe the song opened Destiny’s eyes to her ways & it brought her & her dad closer together. They are a cute father & daughter duo. Her mother overreacted, & she probably embarrassed her daughter more than the song did.

I’m glad Sarah Henson is doing something positive with her life but what type of parents let’s their 14 year old have a baby! I just can’t get with that me personally! I wish her and the family continued success I like Pastor TD Jakes!

A parent lets their teenager have a baby if they do not stress the importance of abstinance & using protection at the proper age. Sex isn’t all that great that it can’t be wait to be had when you are 17, 18, 25. You’ll be having it your entire life..just wait..you really aren’t missing all that much. Wish my 14yr old daughter would tell me she’s pregnant. The a-word would be thrown back at her. Pls do not talk to me about how killing a child is a sin..so is fornication. No one sin is greater than the other.
I agree w/ you Hmmm. I have two sisters, i’m the youngest. My mom raised me & my sisters all the same way. My mom told us about sex, protection, no babies in her house & all that. The middle child had a baby at 16. Me & my older sister don’t have any kids. My sister having a baby at 16 is not my moms fault, its my sisters. My mom did all she could do to prevent my sister from getting pregnant. I don’t believe all the teen parents out there “let” there child get pregnant.
But seeing as Sarah’s dad is a pastor, he probably only taught his daughter about abstinence, ignoring the protection & birth control talk. People need to stop being clueless & think all kids/teens are going to go for the abstinence route. That’s not true. Some teens are gonna have sex & need to know everything concerning about it. I’m 22 & went the abstinence route & it has worked for me. But when i have kids, i’m gonna be smart & talk to them about abstinence but also talk about every form of birth control & condoms.

To understand how/why Sarah Jakes had a baby at 14 you have to understand the family dynamics. I wasn’t there but I do trust the source. TD Jakes was busy looking at his bankbook and wasn’t looking at his family. Sarah got pregnant by one of the ?youth? ministers in Jakes own church but rather than take action against the minister (that’s statutary rape) the pregnancy was blamed on a teen who then signed over his paternal rights. The miniter left for another church. He might be more careful next time, but a predator is a predator. Would you want him in your church?
My dad is an MD with several practices. I’m 14 and if I were to get pregnant by one of his partners, they would be looking for the body. No matter what it would look like to my dads peers in Houston, Atlanta or elsewhere about “letting the fox in the henhouse” my dad wasn’t going to pick a fallguy and let the perpertrator off the hook.
And while Sarah has gotten her life together; look at Sarah’s older half brothers who Jakes raised. Harris County PD knows their names real well. Jakes might be known to all of us from watching the telly but we don’t live with him.

To Ms. Sherley and Pisces; I haven’t said “hey” to you in a while BUT after carefully considering my options I decided to graduate this year and will do so on the 12th (hence removing the 2013 from my name, still me).:-)
