QUVENZHANE SHINES IN BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD TRAILER

Newcomer, Quvenzhane Wallis,8, has hit the ground running in the new independent film “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” In the movie, Quvenzhane plays a girl named Hushpuppy that has to go on a dangerous journey to find her long-lost mother and save her sick father from a terrible storm that causes floods and pre-historic “beasts” named aurochs to be unleashed.

The film has already received excellent reviews from many Sundance Film Festival-goers and others that are seeing the trailer for the first time.

The movie is scheduled to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival later this month and will release on June 27th.

Quvenzhane’s presence and memorable role in the film is sure to keep her going far.

Unique name but she probably likes it and shouldn’t be made to feel bad about it. Beautiful child and the movie looks interesting too.

What a big name for such a little thing, she’s too cute.

  • Rogue621 May 9, 2012 at 11:55 pm

She is much cutier than her name.

  • Simone May 9, 2012 at 5:27 pm

Can’t wait to see this moive! Eventhough her name is odd but hey can’t help what your parents name you .

  • Celeste May 9, 2012 at 5:19 pm

I like her name and I love her acting!

I was thinking the same thing…that name is NOT African. I am sorry but it is a terrible name. I am a strong believer in names that look good on resumes. But besides that she is a beautiful young lady and I wish her nothing but happiness and success.

I saw this movie @Sundance/Utah. Excellent…loved it. Please support it. Leaving the name issue alone.

My dad has an actor friend named Mahershalalhashbaz Ali. Try saying that 10 times :-) .

    • vee May 9, 2012 at 4:26 pm

I know which actor you’re talking about. He has appeared in a variety of shows and movies, even Law & Order SVU. His name comes from the Bible & Mahershalalhashbaz was one of the sons of the prophet Isaiah.

      • Oxford May 9, 2012 at 4:33 pm

He recently professionally shortened his first name to Mahershala. It made me kind of sad when he did that. My dad said it was in his best interest…but still sad.

Beautiful little girl. I hope I get to see this movie.

  • Lizann1203 May 9, 2012 at 2:29 pm

I cannot wait to see the movie! In regards to her name, she is probably African and therefore so is her name. I was always raised not to make fun of anyone because of their culture. She is a cute little girl and probably very talented as well! I wish her the best of success!

    • Mila May 9, 2012 at 2:59 pm

Wishful thinkin girl, that name is NOT African its just crazy. She’s cute tho

      • Connie1 May 9, 2012 at 7:59 pm

I AGREE THAT THE NAME IS LONG AND DIFFICULT TO PRONOUCE BUT IM GLAD HER NAME IS NOT ANN, MARY, STACY, ETC… I HATE BORING “WHITE” AMERICAN NAMES.

        • Trisha May 9, 2012 at 9:56 pm

There are plenty of names that are different, not boring & “white” that are easy to pronounce. I’m hoping the name has a meaning & her parents didn’t combine everyone they love name together to name this little girl

      • Sothernngirl May 31, 2012 at 6:41 pm

        Creole, not crazy.

    • Trisha May 9, 2012 at 3:13 pm

Yea, I’m hoping its a culture name. That’s why i didn’t post my original thought of the name & just asked how to pronounce it & the meaning of it lol.

  • Nicole May 9, 2012 at 1:49 pm

Looks like it’s a great movie! I wish her all the best

  • truly amazing May 9, 2012 at 12:53 pm

@Sherley…lol..I was thinking the same thing , but I did’nt want to get into the “Name” game on here. She’s a very cute little girl though , and I wish her much success!!!!.

  • Sherley May 9, 2012 at 12:49 pm

I would love to see this movie & I wish her great success.

Her mother still needs to be slapped for naming her that.

  • truly amazing May 9, 2012 at 12:39 pm

This movie looks really good and little miss Q is going to go very far. I believe her name is pronounced : Q-Ven-sha-ney. I’m not too sure about it though.

  • EVELINA RAE May 9, 2012 at 12:17 pm

I’m REALLY interested in knowing what Quvenzhane means. She reminds me of a young Willow. Well done little lady! :D

  • Trisha May 9, 2012 at 12:15 pm

How do you pronounce her name? Does it mean something?

She’s a pretty girl. The movie looks good,

    • PlainMean May 9, 2012 at 12:34 pm

Another website I was on broke her name down as Kwah-VAHN-Jah-Nay, which I definitely don’t see how they came up with but what do I know.

I’ve been hearing great things about little Miss Wallis and this movie!

      • Sherley May 9, 2012 at 12:52 pm

Maybe her parents couldn’t decide what to name her so they decided to do a combo of her grandparents 1st names. Whatever it is, it’s ridiculous.

        • EVELINA RAE May 9, 2012 at 6:38 pm

Quvenzhané’s (yep there’s an accent aigu) nickname is Nazie o_O

        • Connie1 May 9, 2012 at 7:55 pm

WOW THAT LOOKED LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE A GREAT FILM. THE LITTLE GIRL IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND OF COURSE I LOVE THE NATURAL HAIR! I LOVE HER NAME. I LIKE NAMES THAT ARE ORIGINAL INSTEAD OF BORING AMERICAN NAMES LIKE BILL, CHRIS, ANN, TRISH, KATHY ETC…BORING
