LAILA ALI IS PROUD TO BE A MOM AND ATHLETE
Laila Ali snaps a candid with her kids Sydney,1, and Curtis Jr.,3. Sydney and Curtis have that brother-sister bond that makes mom proud. Laila writes, “Being a mom is the best!”
Although she retired from the sport after giving birth to her little ones, Laila is still a boxer at heart. In a national conference that celebrated the 40th year of Title IX being enacted as law, Laila said, “We hope this conference will build awareness and appreciation for all that Title IX has done.” Established in 1972, Title IX prohibits sexual discrimination in school sports that are funded by the federal government. Such sports include boxing, which was previously reserved for men.
As president of the Women’s Sports Foundation, Laila is happy to see the progress that women have made in sports. She is especially happy to know that women boxers will be allowed to compete in the 2012 Olympics held in London, England. “I didn’t have that opportunity when I started boxing,” Ali states, “It’s a big regret of mine that I couldn’t be out there with Venus and Serena (Williams) and Lisa Leslie.”
