TV WATCH: DISNEY CHANNEL’S ORIGINAL MOVIE “LET IT SHINE”
Disney Channel continues to release entertaining, relevant, and family-friendly content that movie lovers everywhere can’t wait to watch. The latest movie in the franchise, “Let It Shine”, is no exception. The movie is an excellent, must-see film that’s filled with music, imagination, and lessons that everyone can take with them.
Disney Channel’s Original movie, “Let It Shine”, is an inspiring movie set to the beat of gospel and hip-hop. The modern day Cyrano de Bergerac-inspired story is about three teenagers and how they learn the importance of being themselves.
In the movie, Cyrus, played by Tyler James Williams (“Everybody Hates Chris”), is a shy, aspiring musician/songwriter that writes music under the pen name “Truth.” He enters a contest with a song that he writes about an unrequited love for an old friend, Roxanne, played by Coco Jones (Radio Disney “N.B.T.”). Too shy to present the song himself, Cyrus lets his best friend Kris, played by Trevor Jackson (“Eureka”), perform and take credit for the song. Cyrus idly stands by and watches as his best friend receives all of the accolades and begins to grab the heart of his crush.
Cyrus must break free of his shyness and realize his true potential and self-worth to not only get the credit that he deserves, but also convince his father, who is a preacher, that positivity can come in the form of hip-hop.
The Atlanta and Marietta, GA based movie features a truly All-Star cast and outstanding soundtrack that features 12 original songs.
The movie stars Tyler James Williams (“Everybody Hates Chris”) as Cyrus DeBarge, Coco Jones (Radio Disney “N.B.T.”) as Roxanne Andrews, Trevor J ackson (“Eureka”) as Kris McDuffy, Brandon Mychal Smith (“So Random!”) as Lord of Da Bling, Nicole Sullivan (“MADtv”) as Roxanne’s music manger Lyla, Courtney B. Vance (“FlashForward”) as Cyrus’ preacher father, Jacob DeBarge, and Dawnn Lewis (“A Different World”) as Cyrus’ mother, Gail.
The soundtrack features acclaimed songwriters, producers and musicians Rock Mafia, Toby Gad, David Banner, Antonina Armato, David Banner, Andy Dodd, to name a few.
The film was directed by two-time DGA award winner Paul Hoen (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” “JONAS”).
Mark your calendars because “Let It Shine” will premiere Friday, June 15th @8pm ET/PT on the Disney Channel.
