MARY MARY SINGERS TEACH THEIR KIDS TO CONFRONT BULLYING HEAD ON

Tina and Erica of the Gospel duo ‘Mary Mary’ do not tolerate bullying. The sisters teach their children not to bully others, and to defend themselves if someone is picking on them at school. In a recent interview with Sister2Sister magazine Tina said,  “My kids know to defend yourself, and they know how to communicate their self-defense if they feel like they are threatened. My children know you don’t start no fight…but if somebody put they hands on you, put ‘em on they back.”

Erica also chimed in saying, “My first thought if I think somebody is doing something to my child, I want to defend my child. [But] There are a lot of these lessons that are supposed to happen. Yea, you get bullied, and that’s where you learn how to deal with bullies, so as you grow older you learn how to deal with it. ”

The Marys are happily married to Warryn Campbell (Erica’s husband) and Teddy Campbell (Tina’s husband). Erica recently gave birth to her and Warryn’s third child, Zaya Monique, in February. Tina is pregnant with her and Teddy’s fourth child together who is expected to arrive in August 2012. Fanatics of the Gospel duo can catch them in their second season of ‘Mary Mary’ the reality show via WEtv this Fall.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with the sisters?

@Sherley why shake ur head I agree with Tina put kids on their backs if they put their hands on u! When I was in the 3rd grade and 8th grader slap me for being big and the mother I have wasn’t letting that go! Bullying starts at home if u talk to ur kids and teach them that bullying others is wrong it will stop!

The grammar in that sentence made me shake my head. ‘don’t start NO fight’, ‘put them on THEY back’..smh. I agree with her, just the grammar. Sorry, I was in Queens all weekend & the you welcomes, yous, etc..drove me nuts!

I know thats right!! Put them straight on their back if they touch you..LOL!! It worked for me. I got bullied when I was in middle school by the same girl every single day to the point I did not wanna go to school. I knew how to fight just didn’t want to, but one day I got tired of being picked on and knocked the heffer to the ground. I was never bothered by her again.

Technology has taken bullying to another level. I’m still amazed at how kids are committing suicide over this though. I don’t understand that at all…

I’m with you PlainMean. I would have thought an increase in violence would have been the outcome, but killing yourself because someone is picking on you boggles my mind as well.

I agree with the sisters. That’s exactly what I was taught, “when some body put their hands on you put them back on them.” And we had the type of mama that if we got into a fight and didnt whoop the other persons you know what, then when we got home she would whoop our butts lol.Bullying is not good, I recently heard of a 7yr old who committed suicide here in Detroit because of bullying. I hope that one day this can end. P.s. TJ is Tina’s twin and I can’t wait for Season 2!!!

I agree with Neolove, bullying have been around for years, we either fought back or it eventually stopped. The only reason it’s such a big deal is because kids (particularly whites) are now committing suicide over it. I also imagine the new technology age has something to do with it. People tend to get extra bold behind a computer screen, text messages & emails. I’m glad it is being communicated now. I was bullied by this one gilr so much in elementary school, one time I got tired & whooped her behind. She didn’t see it coming & tried to become my friend afterwards. Bullies are usually whips, a drop kick usually stops them.

“My children know you don’t start no fight…but if somebody put they hands on you, put ‘em on they back.” This sentence right here, I hope it’s a misprint on the writer’s part. SMH

It’s amazing how bullying is NOW coming to public awareness. It should have been acknowledged and controlled years ago. My brother was beaten up by this huge kid in fourth grade and the teachers did nothing. I remember how badly some kids used to get picked on…it’s a shame really. I actually agree with the self-defense trick. Growing up in the hood, that is how you fight. No tears, no committing suicide…fighting back!
