NAS ON HOW PARENTHOOD HAS INFLUENCED HIM

Nasir Jones, a.k.a. Nas, may be a successful artist, but he is still influenced by his teenage daughter Destiny. The rapper recently penned a song about her called ‘Daughters’ that highlights all the ups and downs of fatherhood.

Jones touched on a few of those triumphs and failures during a talk with CNN saying, “It’s a different thing for me, having a teenage daughter is different for me. I’ve got to be a parent, and because of the relationship I have with my daughter’s mother and being in this business, it kind of took me away from her and being that parent who was there all the time. I ask [Destiny] that from time to time and she says I was great, I was cool. So I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough for me. That’s why I made this song ['Daughters].”

Not only has fatherhood made Nas strive to be the best at home, but it has also made him reach for perfection in the studio by watching what he says in his music. “My language about women, things, life was a little crazy,” says the rapper. “For a minute, when my daughter was born, I thought I couldn’t write anymore because she’s going to hear this stuff from her dad. So I started to make records that I thought she could listen to. I had a record called ‘I Know I Can’ and it was pretty cool and she liked it. That was my way of trying to get back.”

I agree Joyia father’s have a major impact on their children especially their daughters! Nas baby mother’s isn’t making life easy for him! So I commend him on being that father that knows he has to do better!
