WILLOW INSPIRES MOM TO JOIN HUMAN TRAFFICKING CAMPAIGN

Jada Pinkett-Smith has joined forces with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to stop human trafficking. The ‘Madagascar 3′ actress, along with her husband Will Smith, attended a State Department ceremony that released the 2012 Trafficking in Person Report on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.

Although many parents motivate their children to get involved in social issues, Jada said that it was her daughter Willow who inspired her to do something. “She did her own research and realized that there were young girls her age in this country being trafficked for sex. She was like, ‘Mommy — you don’t know what’s happening!’ I was like, ‘Hold up, pause right there!’ And, she was like, ‘I’ve got to give my voice to this. These young girls out there need me,” said Pinkett-Smith.

While she is aware of the human trafficking situation in other countries, Jada was surprised to learn that so many children were being exploited in the United States. “I was actually really quite ashamed that I didn’t know about this particular situation in our country, because when you think about human trafficking, you think about it ‘over there.’ Wherever ‘there’ is. When you talk about modern-day slavery, you don’t see chains. It’s all about the mind. … So, it’s a very layered, complex issue that’s going to take some time for us to figure out how to pull apart. … Right now, we just have to get aware,” explained the actress.

Jada has taken several steps to spread awareness since being inspired by Willow. Not only has she recorded a song called ‘Nada Se Compara,’ but the actress has also starred in a video that addresses the problem. Jada believes that awareness is key to ending human exploitation.

On Jada’s new site they talk about a girl named Sara Kruzan and posted her video. It was so sad. I believe Kim Deanne-FreeSaraKruzan can tell you more.

Human trafficking is becoming more profitable than pornography. This is a dangerous world we’re living in. Great job Jada!

That’s right! It’s not just in other countries. Human trafficking is a worldwide issue. There are tons of people who are unaware of human trafficking in the U.S., and it’s going on in their own neighborhoods. I’ve seen various TV programs(e.g. Sex Slaves In America) on MSNBC about human trafficking in the United States.

So proud of the Smith family for getting involved in this awful and sad business of Human Trafficking. It’s just sick and it breaks my heart when these young girls are being abused. And its not just overseas , its here in the USA as well. I’m so glad more people are willing to help put a stop to this madness.

Human trafficking is definitely here in the US. It’s sooo sad. I support the A21 Campaign. They are very active in saving children and giving them hope.

I love that small girl is aware of her world, I find a lot of teens and preteens are very self absorbed and not interested in being charitable. Its great that her mother is open enough to hear her out, a lot of parents wont take it on. Good for them

This is what’s up!! I really love the Smiths. Such a deep family. Very spiritual, free spirited and artistic beings.
