UPCOMING: MALCOLM JEFFERSON IS A FUTURE DOCTOR
Malcolm Jefferson is not your typical 15 year old. The high school sophomore is headed to college and all before he gets his high school diploma.
The young scholastic will be attending Bard College at Simon’s Park in Great Barrington, Massachussetts and he is more than ready for the challenge, saying, “I think I saw enough of high school, I guess, I don’t know. I liked it, it was fun for a while, but I want to see if I can do this new challenge.”
Malcolm will be able to get his associates degree in 2 years and his bachelor’s in 4 years. He wants to “major in pre-med.”
Although he is ready to move on to bigger and better things, admittedly, there are a few things that he will miss about Hillhouse High School. He said, “I liked my teachers. They were all trying to drive and push me forward, and I appreciate that, and the students, I made some good friends here.”

Wonderful! More stories about our children achieving in academics is the way to go. More books less rap!
This is such a beautiful thing! I would love to see this happening en mass! And I would love interview his parents to know how to structure my life so as to encourage and nurture such potential in my own future lo.
Good luck in all your dreams! Don’t give up!
Good for him. Can he be my tutor?! haha. I bet he’s making his parents proud.
*Idk how i would feel being 15 in college. You have nothing in common w/ kids your age and nothing in common w/ your classmates. I hope he has a good balance. i remember hearing a story about a young teenager who graduated college & he had a hard time dealing w/ it
I totally agree with you! I am so happy for this young man and his family. What a smart young man but I would imagine it hard to transition into college life. He won’t be able to do the same things his peers in school are able to do plus missing out on high school activities that we all reminisce on in our adulthood like graduation and prom. All the best to him though
am so impressed- he is handsome
I wish him luck & success. He seems like a very smart & ambitious young man. We definitely need more like him being raised.
he’s like an old, quiet soul. smart kid. go head Dr. Jefferson!
still not quite sure how it works. when he earns his 2 year associate’s degree at the college, does that mean he automatically gets his high school diploma?
He probably already has his high school diploma, plus he can test out of most of his college freshman requirements if he scores high enough giving him his Associate Degree even sooner (although I don’t think that an Associate Degree is offered with a pre-med major).
Good luck future Dr. Jefferson.
Agree with you Denise 100%. As an academic, archaeologist in training, i love seeing black kids striving for careers outside music and sport. We need more of us in university. There just isn’t enough black people in academia, the sciences and medicine. Thus racists and pseudo-scientists use this to argue that we have ‘limited inteligence’ and somehow inferior. Didn’t mean to turn this into a rant, just passionate about education. Anyway, i am happy and proud of this young man even though i don’t know him personally.
Impressive! And he is one handsome young man.
Now this is what I love reading about. I love seeing young, black kids aspiring to be academic superstars. Entertainment is great, but we need to let the message be known that pursuing goals that don’t involve fame are equally, if not more, important for our people.
