WILLOW EXPLAINS HER EDGY STYLE AND MORE

Willow Smith, 11, is hard at work on her new album, but she managed to take time out to talk Yahoo.com about her fashion, her music and tongue ring rumors.

During the interview, Willow talked about the evolution of her style over the years. “When I first got into the entertainment industry, I would always watch Rihanna and all those people and think, ‘I have to be [like] this or I have to be this,’” she said. It was her mother, actress extraordinaire, Jada Pinkett-Smith, that finally told her to just be herself. That good advice is what helped her discover her edgy rock-inspired style.

Willow also talked about the inspiration for her latest single “I Am Me.” She explained her motivation saying, “Society makes you think that it’s not ok to be yourself and the last time I checked that was the easiest thing to do.”

During the interview Willow didn’t divulge the release date for her album, but it’s sure to show off her vocal skills and her unique personal style.

she is amazing, how can she have such a great unique style at eleven! I take quite a lot of inspiration from her to create my own looks believe it or not! i’m really into iron fist clothing at the moment, my latest purchase looks like something Willow would wear i think http://www.rebelstateclothing.com/Product-873/Iron-Fist-Clothing/Dresses/Iron-Fist-Womens-Wishbone-Sequinned-Dress-Black

    Wait a minute…that’s a girl?

  • Jasonda July 30, 2012 at 11:29 am

Thanks Willow for taking a stance against human trafficking. Anyone reading this pass this story along, they need help…There’s a girl Kim Deanne who started a campaign for her friend awhile back, Sara Kruzan – she was trafficked as a kid. You can learn more at freesarakruzan.org or search Kim Deanne-freesarakruzan on FB.

Ick. This girl has issues. She is so overshadowed by everyone in her family, she is just crying out. She will do anything for attention. Poor thing.

    • Baker July 25, 2012 at 12:49 am

Jealous Troll is Jealous… Hmm… maybe some fresh sprinkles will cheer you up. Crying out? Maybe you never were given the opportunity to discover and be creative with your own style. Or maybe your self esteem is in the dirt. Probably why you would feel so sorry for a creative little girl with parents who encourage her creativity. I feel sorry for you.

WILLOW SHOULD BE AN INSPRIRATION TO YOUNG GIRLS EVERYWHERE..GO WILLOW GO!! KEEP IT UP!!

    • maryann July 24, 2012 at 6:52 pm

willow looks just like her dad. and to me act like him too.u know what they say about girls who look like their daddy(their blessed).

  • Connie1 July 20, 2012 at 6:06 pm

GOOD JOB WILLOW. ITS SAD THAT A CHILD HAS TO EXPLAIN HERSELF TO A BUNCH OF ADULTS ANYWAY.

  • Sherley July 19, 2012 at 7:55 pm

She didn’t have to explain herself to anyone. Willow will be just fine. There are more serious things an 11 year old can do that are far worse than cutting/dying hair & wear out of the norm clothing. Neither one of her parents can sing/rap very well so I hope she outshines them in that department.

why did you have to fu the flow. damn man.

  • jj July 19, 2012 at 5:08 pm

I read this on Facebook: “Willow Smith is just Rebecca Black with richer, more desperate parents.” It made me chuckle.
    You go Willow!

  • Trisha (the original one) July 19, 2012 at 4:45 pm

Such a pretty girl. i like the 1st look the best!

  • truly amazing July 19, 2012 at 3:40 pm

I loved that part of the interview as well..and I love how she said that she supports the ones that dislike her & like her , because at the end day..she’s still gonna be herself and continue to make good music for her fans. Love her spirit and awesome attitude towards negative criticism that comes her way. Keep doing you Willow!!!

  • PlainMean July 19, 2012 at 3:33 pm

She’s such an intelligent and mature young lady. Can’t wait to see her accomplish all she sets out to do.

  • Brit July 19, 2012 at 3:24 pm

Yes that was my favorite part . You adults do come in here telling her that!! So I truly do commend Will&Jada. They are raising a very smart and confident little girl! I’m waiting for someone to come in here and start talking negative about Willow. *Always happens * smhh!

  • eliza July 19, 2012 at 3:19 pm

I love how she pointed out that some adults who harshly criticize her are the same ones that tell their own kids they can do anything, and that she’s someone’s child too. She’s a smart kid and a beautiful spirit.

  • Brit July 19, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Shes going to be very pretty when she gets older ! I can see it in her face. She def told you haters. I love this little cutie!

  • Celia July 19, 2012 at 2:59 pm

Willow is really gorgeous and a good influence on her peers, I hope her album succeeds!

  • Tami July 19, 2012 at 2:55 pm

Hahahahahha! Willow yes baby girl! She is way smarter than most of her critics who are insecure and immature adults! Go baby girl . From the sweet mouth of the babes. Who cares what she wears? Do you rather her dress like the grown looking Kardashain girl Kylie? She’s like 14, lookin like she is 29? Willow looks like a kid to me! Big kudos to Will and Jada they are raising a smart and mature little girl! Love this girl and have more respect for her after this.

  • Joyia July 19, 2012 at 2:46 pm

I’m glad she is so well rounded, and so comfortable with being herself at her age. There are so many grown folk who aren’t comfortable with being themselves. I really commend Will & Jada for encouraging her to be herself no matter what. It really makes a special person who really knows who they are inside. And not to worry what people think. Because as we know no matter if your up or down there will always be haters.

    • Tami July 19, 2012 at 2:58 pm

All of this. Which is exactly what baffled me when people said she was too young to be singing about being yourself? What. I swear people make me smhhh. She is way more comfortable in her skin than some adults I know. True story. So I commend Her seriously ! She’s definitely a baby Jada and I dont get why people dont notice that. Her mama been through that whole style and hairstyles too growing up. Esp with the hair and changing the colors . I love Willow so much more after this!

  • Jasmyn July 19, 2012 at 2:14 pm

And Jada told you right, BE YOURSELF. The only opinion that matters is yours.

“Society makes you think that it’s not ok to be yourself and the last time I checked that was the easiest thing to do.”- love this from Willow

  • Deshay July 19, 2012 at 2:12 pm

Sure her outfits are usually colorful and wacky, she doesn’t dress provocative so I say continue on Willow!
