Holly Robinson Peete and husband Rodney hosted the 14th annual DesignCare event over the weekend. The function is meant to gather support for the couple’s foundation, HollyRod. Both Holly and Rodney make a special effort to spread awareness about autism as their eldest son has been coping with the disability for more than ten years.

Holly recently discussed her son RJ’s disability with USA Today saying, “As a mom, you worry about protecting your kid. There are extra added layers of fears when you’re talking about a kid with autism or who has some special needs issue. You worry about him being bullied, about being treated unfairly. You worry about him doing the wrong thing in public and it being misconstrued,” said the actress. Peete also added that parents who have children with autism “need more support.”

Since opening its heart and doors several years ago, the HollyRod Foundation has helped thousands cope with their disabilities. While there is a special place in the foundation’s heart for autism, the organization also helps individuals suffering from Parkinson’s disease and other life-altering disorders.

Numerous celebrities, including singer/host Paula Abdul(pictured) and actress Regina King, attended Holly and Rodney’s benefit. The Peetes have four children in all.
