GARY DOURDAN, ROBERT TOWNSEND, AND DAUGHTERS ‘SPARKLE’ ON RED CARPET
Actor Gary Dourdan was accompanied by his daughter Nyla,15, to the Premiere Of Tri-Star Pictures’ Sparkle held on August 16, 2012 in Hollywood, California. Also in attendance at the event was actor Robert Townsend and his daughter Skye Townsend,19.
A remake of the 1976 movie, Sparkle is a musical drama about a “musical prodigy, Sparkle (Jordin Sparks) struggles to become a star while overcoming issues that are tearing her family apart. From an affluent Detroit area and daughter to a single mother (Whitney Houston), she tries to balance a new romance with music manager, Stix (Derek Luke) while dealing with the unexpected challenges her new life will bring as she and her two sisters (Carmen Ejogo and Tika Sumpter) strive to become a dynamic singing group during the Motown-era.”
Sparkle hits theaters nationwide on Aug. 17.

Gary was all that as Shazai in a Different World! Loved him and Fressy! I’ve seen the original Sparkle but can’t remember much of the movie! I’m going to see it because I love love love Whitney! I like Derek Luke and Jordin Sparks my fellow hometown New Jersyans as well!
Jordin is from Jersey? She puts me in mind of Journee Smollet (sp?).

Jordin was born in Arizona but raised in Jersey, because her father played for those Superbowl champs them Giants

Man, drugs take a terrible tole. He used to be a masterpiece of a specimen.
She is a very pretty young lady, and I’m speechless for her dad. I hadn’t seen pictures of him in awhile, and this was shocking to see. He looks bad, but at the end of the day it really is said when people self destruct.
Nyla looks just like her dad..she cute. Gary use to be handsome, but drugs will change all that. Sad.

I’m only watching Sparkle for Whitney. I know it’s going to be a waste of my money b/c I’ve seen the original and the remake doesn’t compare. The trailer looks unorganized and rushed. You don’t even know the time era it’s in.
I haven’t made up my mind about going to see it yet. Bobbi will get the proceeds & she already have lots of people riding her..JMO
I’m not convinced this movie will be good either, and I’m not crazy about who they chose for certain roles! But I’m a huge Whitney fan and I tend to support black movies even if they don’t look great so I’ll be in theater tonight with my popcorn and large drink!
Tell me how it was tomorrow. I can’t do a movie the 1st weekend it comes out. The people in the theaters mess it all up. I usually see a movie within the first month.
