NENE LEAKES DISHES ON BEING A ‘GLAM-MOM’

Nene Leakes is a glam girl who plans to pass the tradition on to her children’s children. The ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star recently talked about her experience as a grandmother with Essence saying, “I have a glam-baby. Let’s be correct, now. I’m way too young and too fabulous to be a grandma. I’m a glam-mom.”

Unfortunately the glam-mom doesn’t get to see her glam-daughter often because of work. “I haven’t been around [my son and his family] that much because I’ve been out here in Los Angeles working. Whenever I get a chance to fly home, I get the baby from them,” said the reality television star.

Although happy for her son and his growing family now, Nene admitted that at first she had her doubts about Bryson settling down so fast. “I was young when I had Bryson… we were at the same age. I was 21 years old having him,” said Leakes. “At first I wasn’t happy about it, when I heard she was pregnant. I felt like they were young. This is a different time. I felt like they need to enjoy being young. I wanted him to be married. I also want my son to date a lot. So you can figure out what it is you like and don’t like in a woman. I didn’t want him to have children at an early age. We just love her to death. I can’t wait until she gets a little bit bigger, I have already introduced her to the Neiman Marcus kid’s department. She’s ready to go shopping at any time. I’m excited about piercing her ears and polishing her nails. I never had a girl and I’m excited about her.”

The grandma and mother of two is currently starring NBC’s The New Normal.

Being correct you are a GRANDMA, whether you like the term or not.

  • theyknow September 13, 2012 at 2:26 pm

I agree with you. My daughter played with all kinds of dolls when she was little. She didnt care not one bit and I didn’t try and make her care either. My mother on the other hand will not buy a white doll, but that’s just her opinion I guess. The kids really don’t care.

NeNe is going to have her grandbaby looking fly and I know she is going to spoil her. Even though she does have a negative attitude at times, you can’t deny that she is fierce.lol!! The baby is too cute!!

    • khrish September 13, 2012 at 6:54 pm

      Fierce like a wild horse.

  • Nonya September 13, 2012 at 9:16 am

NeNe looks great in that photo. If she can now lose the funky attitude. Congrats Glam-Ma Ma. :)

    • khrish September 13, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Yes, and my goodness, some class to boot. She is so loud and country. Maybe all the money can get her into a finishing class.

Kiri Davis produced a short film in which she re-conducts the “doll test” initially conducted by Dr. Kenneth and Mamie Clark, which was used in the historic desegregation case, Brown vs. Board of Education. The film is called “A Girl Like Me” (Google it). We cannot say that children do not see color. Unless the child is truly color blind she sees color. We ALL do. That being said we can teach children that all colors are beautiful and build a foundation based on reality (not reality TV).

    • Sherley September 12, 2012 at 7:54 pm

I get you, but she’s a newborn. She doesn’t even know it’s a doll. What’s next..testing children who are raised in a civil union household to see if they chose partners of the same sex? Can we please leave children alone so they don’t turn into these wonderful adults we have walking around here?

      • Celeste September 12, 2012 at 8:09 pm

The doll is more a reflection than you think, i.e. of the adults around her who are conditioned to choose the white (over black) doll. There’s even a commenter on here that think biracial automatically equates to cuter.

Personally, I hated dolls. None of them looked like me (not even the black ones). I wanted to be a doctor, so I kept operating on them and cutting them up. Eventually, they got the message and bought me a chemistry set and Easy Bake oven instead.

Your folks should have gotten you the Anatomy Jane & John dolls (all of the organs like heart, lungs etc. come out). I know, kind of morbid but if you wanted to be an MD, best doll for you.

          • Celeste September 12, 2012 at 8:38 pm

I wasn’t morbid. I was into how things worked!

        • Sherley September 12, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Lol. I still say adults are at fault for that. I didn’t like dolls, either. Kept throwing them in the garbage & I had white/black ones as well. But I was a tomboy. IDk about you, but as a child, all the dolls when received in our family, were stripped naked, beaten, hair cut, thrown around, stomped on & thrown away by month’s end. My book got treated better.

          • Celeste September 12, 2012 at 8:40 pm

The only dolls I kept were the ones I made, myself. True story. I had an entire community of paper dolls living in my Bible; families, children, grandparents… each had a name and age. They were of all colors, too.

        • Sherley September 12, 2012 at 8:38 pm

As for the commentor on here claiming she’s cute simply because she’s biracial, that maybe all she has going for her. I mean, she looks at herself every day & if the only beauty she can find in her is the fact that she’s biracial, that just maybe what is saving her.

  • deedee September 12, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Nene is looking FABULOUS…..the baby is a doll, so cute. People get a life & stop w/the ignorant comments about the white doll, its not that serious & another thing, if Nene want to be called Glam mom so be it, who cares!

  • Sherley September 12, 2012 at 5:11 pm

The baby has no idea what color is..adults need to stop pushing their close mindedness on innocent children. Try getting upset when she’s 2. Nene spare me with glam mom. Ppl kill me trying to jazzy up something that requires a serious head shake. Your son screwed up & made you a grandmother at an early age. Plain & simple.

    • Hmmm September 13, 2012 at 4:18 pm

Let’s hope your son never makes a mistake.

      • Sherley September 13, 2012 at 5:02 pm

My son makes mistakes all the time. What is your point? Not that you ever have one. You are not known for having any deep thoughts, but for making one sentence, what you think are smart arse comments.

  • LaTanya September 12, 2012 at 4:51 pm

She’s so cute with that huge binky! Are people really tripping over one white doll? I had mostly black dolls as a kid but I did have a few white ones too it’s not that serious especially for a almost newborn baby! smh

    • Iridescent Me. September 12, 2012 at 4:52 pm

      Thank you. SMH!!

  • candyisdandy September 12, 2012 at 4:50 pm

A truly progressive parent would allow their child to play with dolls of all colors. Remember, racism is an disease and its contageous.

    • Iridescent Me. September 12, 2012 at 4:52 pm

      Indeed!!!

  • mommashane September 12, 2012 at 4:02 pm

ok really a white doll. even if her mother is mixed there are far too many biracial dolls available now. and then to feature it in Essence. no wonder we have issues. Just like all of those getting on Gabby about her hair this complex starts young. why impose this love of blonde fair white skin on an infant. well look at the grandmother in her blonde hair i guess that’s why

    • Iridescent Me. September 12, 2012 at 4:49 pm

So what! Someone gave it to her and it’s in her carrier. It’s not that serious!! You’re making a big deal out of a doll that the baby doesn’t even know exists. It’s all good when Caucasian people adopt African/African American children and they look like good Samaritans (just making a point), but it’s a BIG DEAL and negative when an African American infant has a Caucasian doll in her carrier. There are far more serious issues to focus on like voting in November. Have a seat \_ and have a nice day.

  • Shelly September 12, 2012 at 1:47 pm

Good for her, I hope she puts some money in a college fund for her grand baby instead of giving it all to a department store. But it’s her money my comment. God Bless

  • Pisces September 12, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Kim Zolciak, NeNe’s nemesis on Housewives, highly capitalizes on being a new mom again, in her thirties, along with two pre-teen or teen girls

Now NeNe can carry around a baby on the show, too if she chooses to stay a part of the reality series.

  • LisaLisa September 12, 2012 at 12:44 pm

Aww she is cute and hse has NeNe’s original nose.

  • mel2 September 12, 2012 at 12:31 pm

I’m with NeNe gma seems so dated. The baby is so cute.

  • Me 2 September 12, 2012 at 12:13 pm

She looks like a baby doll. She so tiny.

  • Iridescent Me. September 12, 2012 at 11:24 am

I love Linnethia. She is so excited about that granddaughter of hers, and she should be. That little girl is beautiful. Nene wants to be called Glam-Mom. Everyone comes up with unique names when they become grandmas. Brandy’s mom is called mom mom and remember the Cosby Show episode when Sandra had the twins? They were coming up with random names. Mother, The Sequel. LOLOL

  • brooks September 12, 2012 at 10:37 am

So cute…that pacifier is as big as she is.

  • gradschstudent September 12, 2012 at 9:56 am

that white doll lol black ppl smh

    • Iridescent Me. September 12, 2012 at 11:35 am

Don’t ASSume. That could’ve been a gift from someone and they didn’t want to be disrespectful, so they gave it to her. Also, Bryson’s daughter’s mom could be biracial or come from a mixed background. Maybe an elderly Caucasian lady wanted to give her something. You never know. I’m of African American and Native American decent. My cousin, who is almost 10yrs older than me, bought me a doll for Christmas when I was 1 and it was a White doll. Lol. They didn’t take it from me and say NO, you can’t have it. It was a gift.

      • Iridescent Me. September 12, 2012 at 11:36 am

Approve my comment BCK watch team. It’s not bad. Thanks!!

    • Sherley September 12, 2012 at 5:14 pm

My white neighbor’s 2yr old daughter has a few black & white dolls. She plays with both but the black one is her favorite. Should I notify the KKK?

      • Celeste September 12, 2012 at 7:28 pm

So you’re saying the “playing field” is level for black and white children?

        • Sherley September 12, 2012 at 7:50 pm

When is comes to a doll for any children under 2..yes! Children aren’t aware of nor do they care about skin color. They just want someone to play with. It’s corrupted adults who start imposing their ‘beliefs’ unto these children. My goodness.

          • Celeste September 12, 2012 at 7:53 pm

If they’re human and they are not born color blind they do see color. To see and appreciate ALL colors is a good thing but the foundations for how to deal with a world in which color has different values are set by age 3. This is human cognition, not belief-based.

          • Sherley September 12, 2012 at 7:57 pm

Again, I get you but it’s a doll..for a newborn..who may see the color but have no idea what color she’s seeing or what object she’s seeing it on.

          • Celeste September 12, 2012 at 8:05 pm

Idris says he agrees with me.

          • Sherley September 12, 2012 at 8:31 pm

When Idris said that, which one of you was on top ;) .

          • Celeste September 12, 2012 at 8:42 pm

We flip coins and take turns, gurl! But this is a fam-lee blog. I’ll keep the rest to myself.
