UPCOMING: TAHJ GARY IS A YOUNG FOOTBALL STAR
“My mom signed me up for football, and I played it for the first year. I liked it. So I came back,” were the modest words of 11-year old football superman Tahj Gary. To say that Tahj loves football is an understatement. He not only plays football whenever he can, but he sleeps with a football at night.
The 6th grader’s talent is apparent to anyone that watches him play. Tahj is so talented on the field that he was allowed to move up to play with the 7th graders. His prep school football coach said, “Quite frankly, he was so talented that the other coaches didn’t think they would be able to make a play with him on defense.” Of course, before anyone could make any decisions for Tahj, his mom had to agree to allow him to play with the older guys, which she doesn’t mind at all.
Tahj’s talent has even sparked the interest of some of high school coaches in the area. “A lot of the coaches, they would park their cars on the curbs and videotape Tahj from the curb or a little hideout space. And once they got the opportunity to come up to me or come to the stands, they would ask who was No. 32 — Tahj’s uniform number,” Tahj’s mom said. “They can’t refer to him by his name because they know they should be scouting at such an early age.”
Although he loves football, for now, the young sportsman is still thinking about what he wants to do when he grows up. These days, “I just want to be a regular kid,” he admits. There’s no rush. He’s got plenty of time to figure it all out.
