SHAWN STOCKMAN AND HIS DISNEY PALS

The Stockmans experienced the magic on their recent visit to Disney. Shawn along with wife Sharonda took the kids to see Donald Duck and all the other fascinating characters of Walt Disney’s world, and all three of the young Stockman members had a blast. The couple’s daughter had the most fun, exploring Disney in her princess outfit.

Shawn recently talked about the struggles of coping with eldest son Micah’s autism. “I didn’t know what to do. One thing a man hates when it comes down to his family is not knowing what to do,” said the singer. “All you want for your sons is to grow up and develop a life of their own. To know that it may not happen for my son Micah is extremely hurtful,” explained the singer.

Shawn is a former member of the hit ’90′s group ‘Boyz 2 Men.’

While I’m certain that an ASD diagnostic is hard on any family I wonder about the families of twins in which an ASD diagnosis is made of one twin and the other is “normal” (no disrespect intended but I don’t have another word).

It’s usually fraternal twins, and as a sister of two sets of fraternal twins I wonder if the parents feel that having twins is a blessing or a curse. It has to be hard to see one twin hitting or surpassing the milestones and the other, not.

I have brutally honest parents and my mum told me that she worried about her capacity to love (or I should say accept) a child that could not keep pace with it’s siblings. I think most parents might have some thought like, especially young inexperienced parents, though I doubt they would verbalise it. It’s just par for the course in my house.

Obviously my mum got over whatever she was feeling because I have five younger siblings. I’m just wondering what other parents think (I’m just curious, no need to tell me about how horrible my mother is/was), I come from a VERY honest family, sometimes too honest but they’re the only family I have.

Disney is for the little kids, especially little girls who love being princesses. I feel for Shawn, but autism is not the end of the world. With the money he has, there a limitless resources available to his son. Look at it this way, he will always have a child at home with him, so no empty nest syndrome. Is that Shawn’s mother in law standing behind him?
