Sheryl Lee Ralph and her family recently visited Jamaica to honor Harry Belafonte for all of his accomplishments in entertainment. Both Ivy-Victoria and Etienne accompanied their mom, and watched as she served as host for the honorary event.

Through the years, Harry Belafonte has contributed much to the entertainment world, bringing much needed revenue to Jamaica. “A strong national brand helps to attract investment, talent, consumers and tourists, and enhances the country’s cultural and political influence,” said the country’s prime minister at the event. “Like Jamaicans, Harry Belafonte, all his life, has used what comes to hand. Inventive, adaptive and succeeding against incredible odds.”

Belafonte is recognized as being a legend who brought Caribbean sound to the music industry long before Bob Marley and Reggae became a global hit. He is recognized by many as the ‘King of Calypso.’

Sheryl Lee Ralph, better known for her role as Dee on the hit show ‘Moesha,’ has served as an activist for Jamaica and the world for years. She will host her annual World AIDS Day event, ‘DIVAS Simply Singing,’ on December 1, 2012 initiated “to create awareness of and combat against HIV/AIDs. The DIVA Foundation utilizes music and entertainment as a vehicle to inform, educate and erase the stigma attached to this deadly disease.” She is married to Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes.
