GUEST EDITOR TONYA DAILEY: HINTS FOR PICKING THE RIGHT HOLIDAY PHOTOGRAPHER
With the holidays quickly approaching families are starting to look for a photographer to capture those holiday moments. Here are some helpful hints when it comes to choosing the right photographer to click some of your most treasured family shots:
Picking a photographer can be one of the biggest concerns for parents when planning a photo session. Parents may spend a few weeks asking for photographer referrals or searching online for a photographer that suits their family’s needs. Review the photographer’s portfolio to see if it meets your needs for the style you’re looking for. Don’t be afraid to call or email the photographer and ask questions if there are any concerns. If you are looking for a particular style ask the photographer if they are willing to accommodate.
A lot of photographers have their own styles. You don’t want to spend money on a photographer who doesn’t share your vision. My style of photography is very lifestyle, candid, and fun I don’t really do a lot of posing and like for my families to come to the shoot and just have fun and enjoy each other. I love those natural poses and expressions that families can look back on during the years.
But not all families like the candid look and want something more traditional that involves more posed looks, or props. So before settling make sure you ask these important questions, it will save you from any unnecessary conflict or misunderstanding on picture day.
Lastly, and most important when picking a photographer is their attitude and how well they deal with children. Not everyone can deal with children and it takes a great deal of patience when working with them in photography. If possible look for a photographer with extensive experience when it comes to working with children or hire a photographer that specializes in children’s photography.
