QUVENZHANE WALLIS MAKES HISTORY
Quvenzhane Wallis has official made Academy Award history. The 9-year old actress is now the youngest person ever to be nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
The emerging star is being nominated for her role as Hushpuppy in the Louisiana-based film “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” She has continued to receive shining reviews for her role, which was her first ever performance. She is taking the place as record-holder from Keisha Castle-Hughes, who was nominated for her role in “Whale Rider” when she was 13.
“Nazie” as she is fondly known, will be up against Jessica Chastain for “Zero Dark Thirty,” Jennifer Lawrence for “Silver Linings Playbook,” Naomi Watts for “The Impossible,” and Emmanuelle Riva for “Amour” for the title of Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Her film “Beasts” has been nominated for an amazing total of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Benh Zeitlin, Best Adapted Screenplay and of course, Nazie’s Best Actress nod.
Big Congrats Quvenzhane. Good luck!
