Teen tennis star Sloane Stephens is catching the attention of every media outlet around. By the age of 17, Sloane had already won Wimbledon, the Junior Girls’ doubles titles at the French Open, and the US Open. Now, the young athlete has beat her idol Serena Williams at the Australian Open, advancing her to the semifinals.
Before the match, Serena told the press, “[The next match] just happens to be Serena. She’s obviously one of the greatest players to ever play the game. Without all that, it’s still a tennis match … The court’s the same size. You’re still playing a regular person across the net. You’ve just got to go out and play.”
The daughter of two former athletes is the only American, out of four, to advance. Sloane may be getting accustomed to being compared to Serena Williams on the court, but it’s her individual bright personality that will set her apart off the court.
