Quvenzhane Wallis recently appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to talk about being cast in “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” being nominated for an Oscar and her signature doggy purses.
During the sit down, the sweet little Southern bell and the hilarious host talked about how they were both from Louisiana, which was also were the “Beasts” film was shot. Quvenzhane also had the audience laughing as she talked about how she had to be told who “Oscar” was when she was nominated for an Academy Award. “I had to go to Academy. They had some people that vote for it. So I had to be serious and I had to know what it was, so I was like, ‘Who’s Oscar? Who’s Oscar?’ Because everybody was coming and meeting each other…that’s the golden man ya’ll are talking about?” she recalled.
At the end of the segment, Ellen gave Quvenzhane a few tips on how to stay engaged during the Oscar’s ceremony, which could be quite lengthy for a 9-year old. The host gave the little actress a brand new over-sized doggy purse full of goodies including a copy of the book “Seriously…I’m Kidding” (written by Ellen), an eye mask, sparkling cider, a Rubik’s cube, a camera, and an acceptance speech that said only “Thanks Ellen.”
