Wayne Brady and daughter Maile hit the yellow brick road in style before watching the premiere of Oz The Great and Powerful. The father-daughter duo represent coolness as they casually pose in their semi-formal wear. Maile’s 3D glasses are the greatest.

Oz The Great and Powerful takes the century-old story of Dorothy in Oz to another level as a magician visits the land and encounters three witches who mean to do him harm. The magician must use his wit and the help of Oz residents to escape the many traps laid for him by the witches.

Oz The Great and Powerful will be released to the general audience on March 8, 2013. Maile is Wayne and ex-wife Mandie Taketa’s only child together.

  1. So ignorant!! If you couldnt be an adult & refrain from talking about someones child, you could have skipped over this picture. You take your “pro-blackness” too far too often. Please delete this comment bck smh

    • @CONNIE1, I respect your point of view but there is a way you can be Pro-Black without being anti Other. I hope I’m explaining this properly.

If an equally qualified Black and Caucasian person was up for a position with either of my parents, they will without a doubt, hire the Black person.

If an equally qualified Black American and Black Caribbean person was up for a position, while there might be some leeway with my dad, my mum will without a doubt hire the Black Caribbean person.

Being pro Black, or as in my mums case pro Black Caribbean, doesn’t mean that you hate another race. It only means you prefer your own and give first preference to them.

Yes Wayne Brady seems to be anti Black, and yes people may not care for how his daughter physically looks but there is a West Indian saying that goes…Every man monkey is his idol. Plainly speaking, we may not care for how a child looks but to that child’s parents…THEY ARE PERFECT.

      • I AGREE WITH YOU OXFORD AND I WONT SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT HIS CHILD BUT I HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE ABOUT HIM IF I CHOOSE. THERE IS A THIN LINE BETWEEN PREFERENCE AND DISCRIMINATION/RACISM. SOME PEOPLE, LIKE WAYNE BRADY PREFER WOMEN FROM ANOTHER RACE BECAUSE THEY ARE RACIST AND CHOOSE TO DISCRIMINATE ON THEIR OWN RACE. I HAVE DATED MEN FROM ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF RACES AND CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS BECAUSE I CHOSE TO PUT ASIDE THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. HOWEVER, SOME PEOPLE ONLY DATE A CERTAIN RACE BECAUSE THEY HAVE SELF HATE ISSUES. SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT THE KEY TO HAVING A BEAUTIFUL BABY IS TO MAKE A BABY WITH SOMEONE FROM A DIFFERENT RACE. I CHALLENGE THAT BECAUSE LOOK AT ALL THE KIDS THAT ARE MIXED THAT ARE NOT ATTRACTIVE AT ALL. SO PEOPLE LIKE WAYNE BRADY GET ON MY NERVES.

        • @Connie1, You do have the right to say what you feel about Wayne Brady (if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…), and I do understand where you are coming from. Maybe I took your comment personally, it crossed my mind that if we met in the real world you may not like me because I’m one of the “other”, not brown enough looking Black people.

There are Black people who believe that they are elevating themselves by dating, marrying and/or having children with white or other races. In their quest for light complected (or in their words “prettier”) children they seem to have forgotten that light skin does not guarantee attractiveness and to quote my mother…”Light skin and .50 can’t even buy you a cup of coffee”. I always thought that Kelly Rowland was prettier than Beyonce and in 20 years when Beyonce is really showing her age, Kelly will still look younger and in my opinion prettier.

I wonder how the mothers of men like Wayne Brady who show a preference for white women feel? Do they tell their sons that their behavior hurts or are they in agreement with their sons. In some families it’s hidden, but in mine it’s not. My mother has told my brothers in front of our white relatives; who believe it or not do not have problem with my mums directive to my brothers which is,

“Since Black women come in every shade under the sun, do not bring home to me any white women, while I want you all to have good, honest God-fearing women in your lives, you can find all these traits in a Black woman, do not bring home a white woman. Do not tell me it was love at first sight, that’s just lust and as sentient beings you should know the difference. Do not tell me that since ¾ of the family is white that it’s OK, we are NOT white, do not bring home any white women. Myself, your aunties, your little sister (that’s me :-) ), are not white, think about us, do not bring home to us any white women. If you do not date any white women, you won’t fall in love with one, so keep it in your pants and do not bring home any white women”.

Now I know I’m gonna get like a kazzillion thumbs down for this, but I was giving it to you the way we get it. My mum is not racist and all of her parental influences, the people who made her who she is today, except for her childhood nanny are all white, but they raised her to love herself and to be comfortable in her skin as a strong, confident Black woman who loves her culture and her race and she wants the same for my brothers and considering how light complected my mum is she has said plainly that the reason that she never dated or considered a white man for marriage was that “I DON’T WANT TO DISAPPEAR, IF GOD GRANTS ME LONG LIFE, I WANT TO LOOK IN MY GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN’S FACES AND SEE ME, SOME SEMBLANCE OF ME, I DON’T WANT TO DISAPPEAR”.

That’s why I wonder how the mum’s feel. Sorry this was so long.

          • Happy early birthday Oxford, hope you live to have many more. Hope you and children like you make good use of the god given intelligence you were born with. I’m also a fellow pisces. Interesting post! From reading your comments in the past I knew that your mothr is a stong influence in your life but wow, your mother says things to you and your brotehrs that other people think but don’t have the nerve to say because they don’t want anyon eto think of them as racsist. Its not racist to love your own race. I also cosign on Beyonce/Kelly.
