Rachel Roy’s creativity and honesty in fashion can be attributed to her teen daughter. The designer recently sat down with Hey Hey Gorgeous to talk about her new charity, and revealed that her daughter, Ava, gives honest feedback that influences her decisions in design and style.
“Having daughters has made me a better woman,” said Roy. “I have a secondary line, Rachel, that’s inspired by my 13-year-old daughter, Ava. I look at what Ava looks at when she goes shopping, and I get quick feedback from a 100% honest source.”
Rachel has given much back to society since rising to popularity in the late ’90′s. Not only does the fashion designer advocate for women’s rights on a continuous basis, but she also manages several charities of her own that serve to empower and spread independence. Roy’s latest charity, OrphanAid, helps victims of genocide re-establish themselves through fashion design. Rachel employs hundreds of women through the organization and allows them to create wear that is later sold as limited designs.
Roy has, on several occasions, expressed her desire to inspire women through employment. The fashion designer continues to hold to the belief that women gain independence by earning their own wages. Rachel and ex-husband Damon Dash have two daughters-Ava and Tallulah-together.
