Mercy,8, and David,7, made a trip back home as mom, Madonna, took them to Malawi on April 2, 2013. The singer had all four of her kids in tow as she visited a school and orphanage in the country. Madonna was especially excited to take David back to the orphanage she adopted him from so he could “see his brothers and sisters.”

The ‘Like a Virgin’ singer is credited as being the largest international philanthropic donor of Malawi. Not only has Madonna built several schools through her Raising Malawi organization, but she has also given thousands to various causes trying to improve the childcare situation of the country.

Madonna adopted Mercy and David out of Malawi several years ago. The singer also has a son named Rocco,12, and daughter named Lourdes,16.

  1. I think that they are just bored more than anything and yes, as some said, a little confused. To add to that, they were probably at that school for an hour or so, and as such, that did not give them enough time to engage with the “local students”. But i am also glad that she took them back for the visit!

  2. They probably look uncomfortable b/c they have lil memory of that place. Dont remember the language. Any kid that age, in a totally different environment. Will have a similar reaction. Not really understanding why kids their same age dont live like them & their classmates. But im glad Madonna took them on that trip, & hopefully continues to take them as they get older. As time go on, they will start to really appreciate it.

  3. hmmm awesome way to make the orphans who don’t have a rich famous mom feel sad as hell um get over you’re self they too young to appreciate that trip too soon in my opinion

    • So no one who has money should ever visit them because they will feel bad about themselves? You know nothing about orphans or African children. African children are the most humble, and enthusiastic individuals you will ever meet. It is great that Madonna is instilling this in them now. When should she wait? Until they are ready to go partying? Seriously, get a grip of your judgmental self.

    • They don’t know the people nor the place. It will take time for them to get used to it. Once they get settled in, they will want to visit every year. I get the feeling many of you haven’t traveled to foreign countries as children. You have to remember they are missing the comfort of their familiar surroundings.

    • her entire life these days seems like a ploy for attention and feel sorry that these kids have to be involved in that.

  4. That is just wonderful! I admire Madonna and Angelina Jolie for bring their children back to their native land. One day David, Mercy, Maddox, Pax and Zahara may want to follow in their Mother’s footsteps and that would be simply beautiful. :)

  5. The above picture..am..if looks could show what’s on your mind. They are not feeling this trip. They do look uncomfortable & not wanting to be there. On the other hand, so glad Madonna does take them to their home land & to see their relatives.

  6. They look so uncomfortable and scared and over it. Yeah they will be praise dancing, vogueing and Beyonce-end-of-time stomping all the way home on that private jet!
