Mikaila Ulmer truly took the saying, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” to heart. The seven-year-old social entrepreneur started her very own lemonade stand. The best part is that she’s not selling your everyday run-of-the-mill, lemonade. Mikaila uses a recipe from her 88-year-old great-grandmother. She adds honey, that she personally harvests, flaxseed and secret ingredients to make BeeSweet Lemonade. Mikaila won “Most Creative Lemonade” in Austin’s 2011 Best Lemonade contest for her very unique thirst quencher.
Mikaila started running her lemonade stand when she was just 4-years-old. She was the youngest speaker at this year’s SXSW (South by Southwest®) Conference where she talked about how she balances running her business and being in the 4th grade.
The elementary student also donates 20% of her profits to the Texas Beekeeper’s Association to help save the bees and she also recently participated in the National Lemonade Day on Sunday, May 6 in Austin, Texas.
Mikaila is a great example of what a little ingenuity and drive can do!
