Tia Mowry-Hardrict is a strong mom who knows that she works hard for her son but she didn’t always feel that way. There was a time in history when the actress felt a sense of guilt for her absence from home due to work. “I felt a huge amount of guilt about that,” said Tia to Parade. But then, “I realized that I’m working to provide better life for my child. I’m being an example to him that when you grow up, you need to be a hard worker. I’m showing him that Mom has ambitions, dreams and goals—she’s a go-getter.”
After changing her perspective and becoming a mother whose proud of what she does, Tia now has a bit of advice for first time moms dealing with parental guilt.
Make family time your priority.
“The first thing for us is family time. I work every day from Monday to Thursday, and Friday is family night. We go to my son’s favorite restaurant. Even when things get crazy and hectic, we put that all aside and focus on each other.”
Find a great babysitter.
“Do the research while you’re pregnant and find a situation that makes you comfortable. This will make you feel so much better when it’s time to leave for work.”
Take your time and don’t let the guilt overtake you.
“When you’re a new mom your hormones are flying all over the place. Take your time. The guilt will kick in when you leave your baby, but it helps to know that there are other moms out there doing the same thing. It helped me to realize that I wasn’t doing this alone; millions of women are doing exactly what I’m doing, and they’re OK.”
