Malia Obama, elder daughter of President Barack Obama, was named one of TIME magazine’s 16 most influential teens of 2013. The list of teens includes young people from many different backgrounds and accomplishments including singers, tech geniuses, athletes and media icons.

“Thanks in part to Michelle Obama, they [Malia and her sister Sasha] seem to lead as normal lives as they can while still meeting the demands of being in the limelight. President Obama often mentions his daughters in speeches, and says that they influenced his stance on gay marriage,” the magazine wrote.

Son of New York City mayor-elect Bill de Blasio, Dante de Blasio, was listed as no. 6 on the list. According to TIME, he has become a New York City fashion icon and he and his, now, “signature” afro have inspired many.

  1. AWESOME. SUCH BEAUTIFUL AND INTELLIGENT YOUNG GIRLS WHO INFLUENCE THE WORLD IN SUCH A POSITIVE LIGHT. GREAT ROLE MODELS AND THEY ARE VERY STYLISH. I WANT THAT SKIRT THAT MALIA HAS ON. SO CUTE!

  2. Nice article. these girls were beautiful babies and now they are evolving into beautiful young women. Wishing them and their families always the best.

  3. Love Malia and I am certain she is a dream daughter for any parent. She is beautiful, poised, grounded, well mannered, cultured and very smart. She is a winner in many circles. After looking at this list tho’ and seeing the likes of Jusitn Beiber and the Jenner girls on a list with someone of Malia Obama’s caliber, I lost all confidence in the list. I now see the list as using Malia for her last name and her skin tone. They wanted to make a list and threw in Malia and a few others to make it legit.

    • You do have to recognize that it is the most INFLUENTIAL teens, not the most inspirational. Influence isn’t always a positive thing. This list seems to showcase teens who have the same amount of social power as an adult twice their age in the same field.
